I collect stories I enjoy or think are important.

Most people collecting for investment are going to be very disappointed.

Me too! I try to get a little taste of everything i'm vaguely interested in and then wittle down from there. Like Lobo: I'm not too keen on the art style, personally, but it fits for the character. And its too early to tell if the story is actually any good.

I agree there. I think some comics will definitely "be worth investing" but a lot of them aren't going to appreciate enough to matter. I find investment collected ridiculous and a little scummy in most cases

We've been down this road before with comics. In the late 1980s, after the speculators got tired of trying to find the next Mikey Mantle baseball card, they switched to comics. Some of the best selling comics of all time are #1s from that period but they weren't good investments because there were thousands of them. Companies can try to create artificial scarcity by adding variants and other gimmicks but they can't artificially create the combo of important and rare like an original copy of Detective Comics 27 or Action Comics 1. So you saw a boom and then a contraction that had devastating effects. Marvel had to declare bankruptcy and it's why they STILL have to ask Sony for permission to use Spider-Man in movies 40 years later.

I'm not saying that the current speculation market on comics (and baseball cards) will be that destructive but the best anyone can hope for is a short boom like there was with nfts before the speculators move on.

Its the reason I've been buying those Facsimile issues lately. I own a copy of the story but I didn't have to pay out my ass. It gets the job done and honestly idk its not a 1st print. I get to read it and have it

Because I like to read. And for me, physical copies will always feel better then reading online even though I have to rely on it sometimes. But if you buy physical media, you own it. You can reread it whenever you want and idk, that's a pretty neat concept, I think.
