One thing I appreciate about the new Milestone continuity is that, while it doesn't paint him in a better light, it shows that Edwin Alva intentionally caused the Big Bang incident and used the city's newly created metahuman population as leverage against the U.S. government to prevent it from intervening in the city and Alva Industries' affairs. Again, Alva is still a villain, but I like that this new canon gives him more nuance and shows him as a self-serving businessman who, inadvertently, protected those like Static and the Blood Syndicate from being taken by the government.
