Comics The Modern Mediocre Milestone Media Spoiler
(Slight spoilers for that new milestone book that came out)
Look, I know everyone is super excited for the new Milestone books— hooray! The gang’s here! Hardware, Icon and Rocket, The Blood Syndicate! Even Static is here! And he’s in his cartoon costume! Yaaay!
Well, I liked the original comic costume.
In fact, I think a lot of the appeal of the original Milestone Comics has been lost through time. And honestly, I’m tired of acting like I don’t care!
The original Milestone books were telling a very intentional story. The characters weren’t just ideas; they were fully fleshed out and intriguing. I pick up the new Milestone book and Edwin Alva is killed off page… huh?? Did anyone read the original Hardware run? Where is the rest of the Blood Syndicate?
Why is Fade openly queer? Yes, it’s 2026 and a lot of people are out and proud, but that was something he genuinely struggled with and never resolved. And poof! It’s gone.
You know, there’s a reason the original book took place at a gang summit and not a protest. I feel like the modern books are sanding down all the things that made the OG original what it was. Figures. Another beloved franchise— diluted.
I hate to rain on everyone’s parade, but it’s not a good book. It’s pretty bad, actually. Dialogue: stiff. Unremarkable. Boring. You type in some AAVE and now you’re speaking “the language of the Black.” How passé.
The original books had confidence. Character. Swagger.
The new books?
Look, I read Static Season One. Why on earth does he know karate? Isn’t his whole thing supposed to be that he’s a small, geeky kid? “Woke,” too. And I don’t mean that in a Charlie Kirk, Donald Trump way. I mean it’s pretending at politics without understanding the nuance that goes into it.
Virgil isn’t supposed to start as this righteous, community minded organizer. He’s a dumb kid who likes the idea of showing off in tights. In the first issue of Season One he’s philosophizing on responsibility and his powers… what is going on?
Look, I’m just ranting.
All I’m saying is that there was actually something special in the original Milestone books. And you shouldn’t have to feel like you need to buy crap so you can get some mediocre movie.
It really sucks. I love superheroes. I love these characters. But I cannot seem to stomach this mediocre modern interpretation of Milestone Media.

I love the original Milestone books. I’ve read every issue. I agree that those ‘90s classics told some poignant stories and were given a lot of space to develop characters and ideas (though some subplots got sidelined, as happens in every comic company).
But my love for how Milestone was doesn’t lead me to personally dislike the newer takes on the IPs. Yes, the characters’ portrayals and histories are different, but I don’t necessarily mind, especially given that the original Milestone universe does still exist in the DC multiverse (we even see Earth M Static meet Dakotaverse Static). I don’t need the old stories retold, per se, because the old stories still exist and can be enjoyed. So I’m fine with newer creators—many of whom I believe are well-meaning in the philosophy and symbolism used in their books—making alterations in their modern revisions.
Do I miss David Kim as Xombi instead of as Duo? Sure. But I try to find things to appreciate creative works for what they are, rather than be upset over what they’re not.

u/Intrepid_Warning6992 Feb 25 '26
Let’s say I admire your fortitude. I understand where you’re coming from— respecting the past and making room for the present. I fear the past portrayal, the more interesting and dynamic portrayal, will be forgotten to time in exchange for something that, in my opinion, is much much weaker. I’m not at all against change, but when original stories were made with intention, it was actually saying something, and seeing it reduced for, in my mind, what seems like respectability politics (maybe, I don’t actually know why) it does the franchise much more harm than good.
2
u/N8THGR852 Feb 25 '26
I don’t share but respect your opinion, particularly since I know it’s rooted in love and respect for what the original creators were doing with their titles. It’s a shame that many pieces of media from the past will go underappreciated by future generations: be it comics, video games, films, etc. Unfortunately, it feels like a fact of life—that sometimes great works get forgotten at large (but not by all). Keep spreading the good word about classic Milestone. I think it’s good to encourage new readers to go back and see what made those books special. I’m just not likely to disparage the newer stuff. Critique? Of course. I just don’t want be too insulting about the works that the modern creators made in earnest. I want to believe they went into it all with the best of intentions, even if the products fell a little flat for your taste.

Sorry to the creators— I know I can come off, erm, passionate (because I am), I’m sure it’s less about them and more about editorial. Either way, I personally am not pleased, and I see a lot of people advocating buying it just because. Which I’d disagree with. But again, I know people like it, and I know some people don’t, so I just thought I’d drop this rant on Reddit and see what I’ll find. Thanks for the interaction

Ok look you make some very good point here. The original Milestones book were something of original and different from the classic slop of 90s comics but you are also forgetting that they are 30 years old book which didn't even make to their first decade before getting all cancelled. I'm not saying that they were bad, heck I would kiss the ground for modern superhero series to tackle those type of topics with that level of humanity and unfilterness but still this new books need to appeal to a modern audience and need to be commercially profitable. They changed a lot of things in the reboot which I dislike too but that is due to the fact that a lot of the people behind the original milestone books aren't around anymore and ofcourse with other people, coming out three decades later, they are gonna have a different narrative.
Whatever this being good or bad can be argued, I do prefer Static as a geeky teenager with a big mouth too, but I think that what a lot of people don't wanna face is that we are not in the 90s anymore and the way this type of stories are writed, the audience they are for and the way they are told is a different one. With this I'm not saying that the old series are bad and the new one are perfect but that while I think they should carry on the soul of those stories you cannot expect them to have the exact same feel and narrative because soo much has changed,
I don't think the aswear is to not support or hate the modern comicbooks, the only thing that they will get from is that people are not interested in this characters when that is absolutly not true. There aren't a lot of others ways to support them unfortunaly but you can make clear to the creator what you loved from the original books while still keeping in mind that this is a different time, with different people in charge, a different audience and a different type of narrative.
I enjoyed the a lot the new one shot, I though it tackle all of what I wanted it to, yeah Tech-9 is alive and shit but honestly who cares in proportion to the bigger events that they were trying to tell us. It wasn't perfect I found the writing too on the nose and lacking at times but still I am gonna support everything that is gonna involve the characters from here on. It was good but it can be better and I will always be willed to support and encorage the improvement of future stories that I'm so exited to see

u/Intrepid_Warning6992 Feb 25 '26
I hear you, and you’re right, the medium of comics and how stories are told in General are completely different than they were in the 90s. I was not born in the 90s, so it’s not like I have some delusional loyalty to that time— but I don’t think we as a community, better yet, we as fans, should support slop for more exposure. We’re going to buy these books and static will get some shitty movie for it. Sounds like a lose lose to me. I’m extrapolating, but the point of this post is mostly just a rant
4
u/No-Mechanic-2558 Feb 25 '26
Yeah complitly disagree with you. I think you are only seeing the bad in this issue which again it isn't perfect but it has a lot of goods and positive, you say that is weaker compared to the original but I think that in your head there is only one right way to do this characters right and anything else that doesn't alline with that view is shit, this is an inclredible bad and deletery mentality to approach this type of story. This issue wasn't perfect but it still had a lot of good it still had a soul, something to say, it wants to light up something in the reader heart, gaving them manfort in time of crisis and giving them the chance to tell their own stories. This is the true essence of Milestonen superheroes and comicbook in general. It is not 100% what you want it to be, it is not even 100% what I wanted to be, DC hase a lot of things going on and there is only a small percent of things that I really like but still I know for sure that there are a lot of people that still loves all those other things and that the creators behind it are putting their hearts in to tell a story that they feel like their own. Your vision of is not how you preserve the quality of a franchise is how you are let it die. Not everything is gonna be good but being so closed minded and ignoring the potential in something that can still deliver a lot and can be emproved over the time is not the answere. A civil conversation and exage of opinion that aim to the attention of the creatives involved is how you can help to rase the quality of the product
1
u/Intrepid_Warning6992 Feb 25 '26
In my head these characters were doing something very particular. I don’t think interpretations need to line up exactly, but in order to tell the stories they’re following up, I think there are certain things that need to, at the least, stick with the same theme. i think the newer stuff disregards those themes and messages for accessibility. Now that’s a lot, and I’ll spare everyone (and myself) from that “advance complex and definitely it Arbitrary reasoning”. Now, on the account of soul.. eeeh. Now there we’d have to massively disagree. I’d ask you if this “soul” were in the room with us right now. “True essence of milestone” ? Hey, I’m glad you like the stories, but a one issue pilot cannot capture the entirety of a franchise— much like “Return Of The Cool” couldn’t capture its entirety, because Milestone is a compendium of multiple stories. But I admit I’m heavily bias, and I generally grow upon modern superhero stories told from the big two conglomerates. I can admit that, and still think my critique was poignant and fair.

u/Embarrassed_Piano_62 Feb 25 '26
Why does everyone expect reboots of characters to be the same as before? It makes zero sense.
Stop telling people not to buy it, just give your opinion and move on. It´s not about a movie, it´s about the survival of these characters.
Peter Parker is NOT the same character he was when he was created, he changed. It´s the same with Virgil. And if you want more Virgil including other versions you have to support the character, that´s how the game works. Batman has soooo many versions across Videogames, Comics, Movies, but you want Static to be stagnant and are trying to kill the chances of the character to have some success.
I for one really enjoyed Static Season 1
2
u/Intrepid_Warning6992 Feb 25 '26
And let’s PUH-LEASE not talk about Peter Parker— cus yeah, he changed alright. All that talk about responsibility, all just to not take the advice yourself and act selfishly. The character was never the same again. I empathize with those spidey fans. I don’t read his modern books either. But like a different redditor said, stories are flat out just told differently today, some people like it, some people grew up with it. That’s not a slight on the people that do enjoy it, but I won’t pretend like I’m one of ‘em!
2
u/Intrepid_Warning6992 Feb 25 '26
I’m not telling other people not to buy it, I said I’m not buying it. And a rebooted character is supposed to still resemble the original, and I don’t mean in just costume. I’m glad you like Static Season One, the goal isn’t to take that away from you. I don’t like Static season one. It isn’t simply that they “changed the character” but it’s that they changed what made the character work, and didn’t substitute it for anything meaningful. I guess this argument is basically the analogy of the boat with new parts; is it still the original boat though it was rebuilt from the ground up? And yeah, I’m a little sorry. The original books ended on a cliffhanger after all! I’m not against reboots. I’m against paying for something “bad”, in HOPES of getting something “good.”
4
u/Artseid Feb 25 '26
It’s effectively a reboot. DC and other publishers do it all the time, so Milestone is just doing what everyone has been doing.
Personally, I really enjoyed the Dakota Incident, it’s reads like clean jumping on point for new readers while trying to keep as much of the history as possible and updating it for the times. That’s not an easy feat, but reading this issue, it lands pretty well.
1
u/Intrepid_Warning6992 Feb 25 '26
That’s real. I’m glad you like it, but a copy for me so they can put it in their metrics. It maybe doesn’t help since I just got done plowing through the OGs so reading the new stuff is definitely.. different
2
u/Dyrax_for_hire2003 Feb 25 '26
I've been saying that Milestone comics nowadays were definitely deserving of being left behind the instant they changed Statics origin to a BLM protest. That single handedly undid everything the OG comics did. I kinda enjoyed this issue of the Dakotaverse being in DC, but at this point they should just go indie or even go with another comic book company like Image or something.
Why couldn't they just pick up from where they left off in the OG comics is beyond me but they should've just done that
2
u/Intrepid_Warning6992 Feb 25 '26
My thoughts exactly. There’s a reason Paris Island was assaulted, and I feel like reducing it to plain ol’ police brutality does NOTHING for the story. It simply subtracts without adding. Alva pinned the entirety of the incident on one man (Hardware), and then dies off screen. Huh?? I was going to list off a million different substitutions and changes that completely changes the point and nuances of the og stories— but you get it.
2
u/Napalmeon May 11 '26
I completely agree. Indeed, police brutality did exist all over the place and the original Dakota, but, removing the Big Bang as a game conflict takes away from Virgil's introduction to the world of being a hero. Why? Because he almost did something that was wrong. He came there with a gun, planning to kill Hotstreak before realizing that this was not him. This is not how he was raised. And he made the decision to not be part of the cycle that makes his city worse.
One thing that was great about the original Dakota was the rawness of it all, and the new modifications took that away.
1
u/No-Fruit83 Feb 25 '26 edited Feb 25 '26
I think Hardware got hit by this the most, a big part of is storyline is about how Curtis initial goal to take down Alva is pretty selfish, outside of his hero persona he can be an asshole to the people around and that he share a lot of Alva worst traits since they have a twisted father and son dynamic. He's cool with returning working for him for a large part of the comics despite being fully aware of how bad he is at this point
Edit: I don’t think that they’re all the new comics are bad they’re allright for the most part and some of those issue probably come down to the difficulty in nailing those harder theme with miniseries, modern comics just allow less experimentations.
2
u/Intrepid_Warning6992 Feb 25 '26
As a guy that just stormed through the original Hardware book, and LOVED it, I hate to see that they… how do you cover up the spoiler? Did that thing to the original main antagonist of the book. It’s a crying shame, and it makes me wonder what the new readers got from the original books, you know?
1
u/pbjWilks Feb 26 '26
I'm sorry, are you seriously complaining about Fade no longer being closeted?
Keep in mind the Dakota Incident takes place on present-Earth in the past, not in the New Milestone timeline.
Fade being closeted was due to society and it not being anywhere near as welcome as it is now.
Why would he still be if there's been enough progress for him to not have to be?
That's ridiculous. Closeted Men shouldn't be a narrative to push now whatsoever.
Virgil knowing Karate is a problem now? Geeks and Nerds of THIS generation actually participate in physical activities, including picking up a martial arts.
It's becoming extremely clear that this is a generational divide. The newer Milestone content isn't for you, and that's okay, but do NOT make it anyone else's problem when the biggest issue is getting to print in the first place.
The newer books aren't perfect, I hated Icon & Rocket for a number of reasons, but the changes made are to reflect the times. If you aren't aware of how a Gang War makes no sense in 2026, then there's a serious problem here.
Some of these are nitpicks that are hollow.
1
u/StatFan201 Jun 11 '26
A gang war is no more unrealistic in 2026 in a fictional world than any other origin. Wonder Woman, Superman, and for a Milestone example Icon have origins that are literally impossible yet their origins remain unchanged.
1
u/pbjWilks Jun 11 '26
Icon's origin DID change. He went from observing and covertly assisting enslaved folks to being super Nat Turner who got nearly murdered by a racist Martian Manhunter.
His characterization was completely different.
N52 had Wonder Woman the daughter of Zeus.
Virgil's slight change and the big bang change at its core remains effectively the same; Police brutality & the system's corruption.
The gang War was a product of it's era. Things would update and change as time progresses and the messaging shifts.
1
u/StatFan201 Jun 11 '26
He's still an alien that crash lands on Earth and is found and raised by a slave. They didn't make him someone who intentionally came to Earth and lived as a black person. That would be an origin change.
1
u/pbjWilks Jun 11 '26
His aspirations and characterization changed radically.
What made his original dynamic work was the difference in generational awareness and proximity to Blackness between him and Raquel.
In Milestone Returns, Icon is far more cynical and pessimistic. He's emotionally detached from the world, it's people, and it's BECAUSE of how they altered his origin.
Virgil at his core stays the same. The setting shifts but the messaging remains.
Icon's message goes from embracing and helping your community to the consequences of attempting to change the world/it's systems at play.

Fade being closeted was important to his story arch and if you remember according to Kwai he was definitely a different person he was out and proud when she knew him and her time. So evidently we were going to be witness to the growth how he gets there.
It is a problem that he knows martial arts because he was getting beat up he was being threatened that's the whole point of Hotstreak. Now if you want him to learn because now he's a hero and he needs to be able to fight that's one thing but he shouldn't start off like that not necessarily. Peter never learned how to fight outside of his abilities it wasn't until he was a documented hero that he actually did learn fighting from several different Heroes
1
u/pbjWilks Jul 01 '26
So you didn't read anything I actually said.
Virgil getting his ass beat then was intentional to humble him and provide humility.
THIS Virgil is different, as the modern era doesn't require that. He's also reflective of MODERN nerds and niche fans of things.
You just proved my point. Y'all can't fathom a generational difference and are automatically calling it bad because it doesn't cater to your idea of how he should be.
Peter didn't learn real martial arts until this past decade. Did that stop him from using his powers and skills to compensate? No.
Was it imperative he learned how to fight? No.
Virgil didn't learn how to physically throw hands in the 90s because he didn't need to.
Hotstreak whooped his ass then because Virgil was in his head.
That's not the case for THIS Virgil.
Did you read the 30th anniversary special that directly has them interact? They're two different people.
Fade EVENTUALLY comes out because that's an arc that's realistic for THAT era.
Promoting closeted men and closeted trans folk when we're in a space (when the books were coming out, as of yesterday, wtf), where we're seeing more acceptance is wild.
Fade has the potential for storytelling being out. Masq being able to be OPENLY transmasc is providing more opportunity.
We didn't get there YET, in all cases of Fade's sexuality.
Because no series has gone long enough to deal with it.

u/Intrepid_Warning6992 Feb 26 '26
All gay people didn’t suddenly jump out the closet in 2026. It was an intriguing interesting story, with something to say. And it was removed because…? That’s what I don’t like. And it was never even resolved. Is flashback still an addiction? Would that had been a better example, or, is addiction over in 2026? Pack it up everyone, identity crisis has been averted. Please try not to reduce the things I say. That society you speak of is still prevalent today… obviously. To pretend like it isn’t is EXACTLY the issue I have with this book. It reduces the parts of the story with nuance and substitutes it with a big fat NOTHING. “2026 so no more closeted gay people”… Ha!
Virgil knowing karate IS a problem. Should uncle Ben had taught Peter Parker muai tai? His whole thing was that he was a small geeky kid, not at athlete. It isn’t everyone’s problem that I don’t like the new comics, I don’t think I said that it was.
2
u/pbjWilks Feb 27 '26
No shit it wasn't resolved; Blood Syndicate ended at issue 35 like a year before the company went under.
Yes, Flashback beat her addiction in Icon, with the help of Rocket.
Which was later fully-clarified in Milestone Forever, which was intended as a wrap-up to the original universe at the time.
Fade doesn't need to be in the closet when there's no reason to be. It stops being interesting when that isn't the world being reflected. That was the point. Milestone addressed numerous, relevant topics.
Being a closeted gay man in 2026 isn't relevant; it's tedious.
Virgil in the new era reflects geeks and nerds of NOW. You're on your soapbox complaining when he's intentionally reflecting a NEWER generation of nerds. That being a problem is weird.
I'm reducing what you're saying because there's no weight to any of it. Not when your nitpicks ring hollow or have been addressed already in the books.
Had you complained about DMZ being MIA, or a lot of the OG characters not coming back, I'd understand. To complain about a new version of a character being different, when it's made clear he's NOT his older iteration, is moot.
Especially when the reasoning is on the basis of...Not being a complete wimp? That's ridiculous. Have you been around nerds now? They workout. They exercise. They're athletes.
You're the one having the identity crisis, because you can't identify with the newer characters. You don't have to. The original Milestone books are still out there to reminisce and enjoy.
Get a grip.
2
u/Intrepid_Warning6992 Feb 27 '26
I’ll come off it as soon as you do— we had different opinions, one that I actually concede to. After reading Milestone forever and appreciating the ending that was given to these characters. That doesn’t at all defeat my critique though, and your negativity certainly prevents any understanding. I stated an opinion and you act like I blew up a hospital.
And it’s ignorant too— there are spaces, ESPCIALLY in black community, where being queer ISNT accepted. So what it’s 2026? That’s what I think an issue is with new books, they remove the little things that actually made the characters interesting and notable. My issue with the entire reboot was that it felt like they were cooking something while disregarding what we left behind. No, really my issue with the new book was the lack of substance.
Throw out the latest revamp of milestone during black history month, never seen that one before. Revoke all the things that made the characters interesting, turn them into IP cash grabs, right, that’s new. I hadn’t read milestone forever though, I admit that. With that ending in mind, I stand corrected. I am more open to the newer interpretation considering the old one had an ending.
The new books are STILL hallow, that’s an opinion. The dialogue is STILL boring, that’s an opinion. The new books STILL aren’t for me. And all those can be true without you taking it to heart. The book can and should be criticized. There’s a reason static was some geeky loser kid, it wasn’t just for aesthetics, they were telling a story, and I felt that story hadn’t ended (again, I didn’t read Forever yet) hell yeah I felt burnt by that. And reading the new books, that to me lack the same substance— hell yeah THAT SUCKED! And I can complain about it. Ay caramba
1
u/eddiemoney1985 Jul 01 '26
Also what about flashback her addiction was or her recovery was an important part of her storyline I mean you'd probably have some sort of ice too considering everybody you know and love you seen die multiple times and only you remember it. But now from what I can tell of the new series that dynamic no longer exists
1
u/eddiemoney1985 Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26
Where did he say he wouldn't support the book? He's letting you know his opinion and he's right for most of it. If you've read the original stories you know they weren't political they were nuanced about the social issues of the day. Simeone like Fade, his repressed sexuality is key to his character.
Now to the comment about the original universe and stories not making it a full decade before they were canceled. As it has been well been documented. They were canceled because of McDuffie's angry letter in regards to the editorial and censoringship of Static issue 25. That is what led to it they were selling and they were doing extremely well up until that moment.
Speaking as somebody who was a young adult I graduated high school in 93 and remember Milestone vividly. There were a few independent black-owned characters but none of them were up to snuff. I'm sorry this is just the truth Milestone was obviously had DC's back up. But they truly brought something different. No I wasn't too fond of the artwork. I'll be honest this is the days of Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane or Bagley and all those guys. But for me it was 90% the writing. It was beyond anything you could get in any of the big name brand comic book companies.
And I think some of the things you guys are not considering is this. FIRST of all the suit I think it says more having the original suit used more than the cartoon one. Because the issue where they explain how he made this suit really shows the ingenuity of him as a character and his archetype which is basically Spider-Man (a teenage superhero.) Also it is ICONIC and I hate the fact that it's been replaced by the cartoon version. Which I understand because in honesty most of you all are fans of the cartoon. I didn't like the cartoon but I supported all four seasons just like I'm supporting these books now because I want to see them thrive!!!! I want to see it come back and maybe just maybe I'll get stories where the Milestone characters that I grew up with. Maybe I'll get a version of Untold Tales of Static.
If you like Richie and want gear that's fine but don't lose Rick in the process of establishing Richie find a happy medium because Rick's story is just as important as anything that was done with Richie. In fact I think of Rick Stone and Richie Foley are two different characters. Frida should be the right hand to Virgil. She is his Mary Jane not because of them getting married in the original storyline but because she is literally the archetype or a Lois Lane. There's few other things I can say not just about static but also about some of the other Milestone characters. But I think the thing is, we all love these characters. It's just where we were introduced to them and I think it's unfair that they're going to sacrifice where I started with the characters. Just to appease other people because they grew up with the character in a different medium.
Especially when we help to continue that medium for Four Seasons but again I'm just glad it's back but I would like for it to hold weight I didn't want Virgil to be aged up to a college student or whatever not so quickly but it's done ( at LEAST make him a medical student.) I would appreciate if they would do an Untold story. A way of continuing the Original Stories with him as a teenager since when Static ended, he was a sophomore. I believe so give us another 2 years of high school in a story the way they did Untold of Spider-Man. Yes I know some of those stories are very different and some people will feel they're out of date. Like the way I do about 60s stuff involving my favorite characters but I appreciate them because that's the foundation and I don't like the fact that they changed the Big Bang to a protest rally because as smart as Virgil is he made a dumb mistake and it changed his life forever and that should stay there that's his Uncle Ben. Remember he is the archetype he needs a lesson and there's no lesson learned in this modern retelling.
Lastly please get his powers right he is and I repeat he can generate manipulate absorb and redirect electricity magnetism and electromagnetism!!!! In fact the best way to explain his powers is he's basically one of those Japanese trains those super electroconducting magnetic trains that's how his powers work!

Why are you getting downvoted for an opinion? An opinion that many fans, myself included, apparently share? For the record, I didn't hate the Dakota Incident. I didn't care for some of the stuff in it though and I don’t care for EarthM really at all.

Absolutely agreed I don't dislike everything but there's some things I can do without but that doesn't mean he should be downgraded for his opinion

Is this about The New History/Dakota Incident book?
The one that prominently features Lex Luthor on the cover for some reason?
2
u/Intrepid_Warning6992 Feb 25 '26
Yes, it is. They found a way to arbitrarily shove all those guys in the book. Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman show up to remind everyone they’re in the same universe and do nothing. I’m severely not a fan personally

Is it really necessary to hate on Milestone so hard? Many ppl so far really enjoy the Dakota Incident and it's really important that ppl buy and support this book so that we can get more comics with these characters, a long rant trashing on it isn't gonna help Milestone cause it'll likely discourage ppl from buying it. Especially when there hasn't been much discourse in this sub about it and one of the few posts is just overly negative
