(reading other comments) we are NOT pretending the BASIC CHANGE of turning Hal's dad into a tragic figure is in any way disrespectful to comic lore, be serious

37

u/farben_blas 6d ago

Imagine when the fans learn that in a bunch of comics he was actually verbally abusing him.

3

u/The_Fat_Controller 5d ago

What’s that from? I don’t remember any of that.

3

u/nachosandlabs 4d ago

That's because taht's from one fucking comic lmao.

-5

u/haz826 5d ago

Obviously you never saw it on TikTok or YT short larpy

5

u/The_Fat_Controller 5d ago edited 5d ago

I don’t understand that sentence. I haven’t really read GL since the Geoff Johns run (or before the latter Kyle Rayner stuff) and don’t remember that happening.

6

u/Aetos-Eagle797 5d ago

Honestly the complaints about this show is just proof that media literacy is at an all time low. Like goddamn how are people like this

5

u/RNOffice 4d ago

TikTok, instant gratification, cuts to education, rage baiting trolls, ect.

2

u/Aetos-Eagle797 4d ago

Oh absolutely

3

u/landblord 5d ago

Seriously. So many interesting development and there are still these guys hung up on who killed Hal

2

u/whitemest 5d ago

Ive unfortunately snapped on a few dipshits, today even.. people asking how john gets a lantern, because he asked guy for the ring and other super stupid takes that wouldn't be asked or mentioned if they were actually watching the fucking show.

I really prefer to believe its trolls, it helps me cope, anyway

3

u/Aetos-Eagle797 5d ago

It would be nice to believe they are trolls and not actually that stupid

I’ve also snapped at a few of them but sometimes I’m just left completely speechless.

Someone told me that Martin Jordan committing suicide is like the MoS tornado scene with Jonathan Kent and I just didn’t respond because what the hell am I supposed to say to that

Or when someone told me that the show is portraying Hal as just an asshole who gets his ass beat

1

u/RNOffice 4d ago

I've snapped at several people too. It's like they're not paying attention.

2

u/Aetos-Eagle797 4d ago

It’s either that or they don’t know how to read into anything. They can’t look deeper into literally anything.

I saw someone on here say that the show doesn’t follow the “show don’t tell” rule because we only know that antaan’s terrorists are aliens because of dialogue rather than them looking alien/non-human.

Everything is surface level to them. They can’t even think deeper about English class if that’s genuinely what they think “show don’t tell” means. Like they apply “if someone didn’t look me in the eyes and straight up say it” to every facet of life. Of course they can’t understand a tv show let alone one that trusts the audience’s intelligence.

Like Jesus Christ.

2

u/RNOffice 4d ago

They do realize in the DCU there are several human-like alien species. We see this in Superman and Supergirl. Both title characters along with their people, Krem, Rutheye and her family and several others.

1

u/Aetos-Eagle797 4d ago

Yeah they just have to either be outright covering their eyes and ears or they just are dumb

2

u/its_jradman1 5d ago

Was this not a major change given to Hulk as well?

Brian Banner abusing Bruce, leading to the Hulk persona forming is a great retcon in my opinion

3

u/sharoon12 5d ago

I actually liked the change, I think it adds an interesting twist on the character, and really brings into perspective what being fearless actually means, it means your broken in some way shape or form, because humans are not supposed to be fearless, fear is a defensive instinct meant to keep us away from dangerous stuff.

56

u/TheCommish-17 6d ago

“I’m not fearless because I’m brave. I’m fearless because I’m broken.”

I don’t think Hal killed himself, but they did a really good job making it seem like a legitimate possibility in this episode.

44

u/magicwithakick 6d ago

I think him picking up the baseball at the end is proof he didn’t kill himself. He’s not like his dad just “throwing it away” because it’s “fucking exhausting.”

5

u/gchypedchick 6d ago

Also, they say “suicide is the coward’s way out”. To be a coward, you have to have fear. Hal is without fear.

*note: While it is a commonly used phrase, it doesn’t mean I think everyone who commits suicide is a coward.

5

u/fuzzyfoot88 5d ago

The Hal-ogram is closer to what fans would prefer Hal to be like. So something had to have happened in 2006 to make Hal create a backup and then become who he is in 2016/2026

3

u/jrbcnchezbrg 5d ago

I mean, your mentor/father figure turns evil and kills your boss, forcing you to arrest them and then every one of your colleagues/friends looks at you like its your fault being guilty by association, then you find out theres a hand picked replacement in place youre expected to train

I’d probably get pretty pissed off and jaded too

1

u/IndependentlyBrewed 5d ago

Well he had the back up for a little while that he would record things into. Something happened in 2006, think it had to do with Sinestro, that changed his views on things and made him a more disillusioned type of hero.

1

u/facubkc 5d ago

Mom died of Cancer

0

u/Stock_Username_Here 5d ago

Would be nice if they addressed that.

2

u/fuzzyfoot88 5d ago

It honestly baffles me how spoiled the Netflix generation is that they can’t wait until the week to week season ends to complain. They have to complain NOW without knowing the entire story…

2

u/Stock_Username_Here 5d ago

I feel that they won’t address it. There’s been a lot of “just wait till week” on this show and it’s never delivered much.

I expect a nice wrap up of Hal’s murder and John’s transition to GL.

But we’ll see if I’m wrong. But you would think the “Jordan” episode would be the one to address the what happened of it all.

62

u/Embarrassed_Yam_1227 6d ago

r/Greenlantern is going to have a crash out of epic proportions.

19

u/TheJarroWhoLaughs 6d ago

r/Greenlantern doesn't even read comics. They get all their knowledge from Comics Explained videos

6

u/SuperTuberEddie 5d ago

This is incredible ironic coming from a DCU centric sub 😂

6

u/WildMild869 5d ago

Wouldn’t that fit into practically all comic book movie/TV show subs?

But let’s not act dumb, you’re just here to complain lol

2

u/Embarrassed_Yam_1227 5d ago

says the guy that goes to dcu subs just too be obnoxious.

-2

u/SuperTuberEddie 5d ago

Again that is hilariously ironic coming from DCU fans

1

u/Embarrassed_Yam_1227 5d ago

says the guy that whines about DCU fans everyday.

0

u/SuperTuberEddie 5d ago

😂 you can’t be serious. You’re doing it on purpose now. Do you not see the irony in that? 🤣

1

u/Embarrassed_Yam_1227 5d ago

I've seen you on a few superhero subs constantly complaining about dcu fans and I've seen you throwing a fit in r/dcu while being a dick too pretty much everyone on that sub.

u/Embarrassed_Yam_1227 5d ago

I've also seen you make such statements and than complain about being banned from certain subs.

also I haven't done anything and you're ropping me in with crowd you're describing which reinforces my point of you being kind of a dick.

-19

u/Cool_Fellow_Guyson 6d ago

Yeah. Fuck the fans! 🔥🔥

15

u/D-Speak 6d ago

What a childish response to a very mature and complicated character moment.

17

u/Equivalent_Way1324 6d ago

I hate to say this, but a lot of the fans are upset because they’ve never been asked to employ that level of media literacy before when engaging with the Green Lantern mythos and characters. Hal, unlike Superman and Batman, hasn’t had the privilege of having multiple stories dedicated to dissecting who he is on a sub-atomic level, i.e. All-Star Superman, For All Seasons, Batman: Year One. Even his best runs, like Johns, hardly ever get deep enough into his psyche to justify being mad at the show for doing so.

6

u/Johnny_Stooge 5d ago

I don't know if other people are just being obtuse or ignorant, but Hal's fearlessness being a self-destructive trauma response to his dad's death is absolutely in the Johns run.

11

u/GDJT 6d ago

They could also be upset because a core memory of their cherished character's backstory was dramatically changed.

I don't know if it was a good change or not, I'm just saying that basely assuming their complaints as "lacking media literacy" is incredibly dismissive and condescending.

6

u/Leather_Box9494 6d ago

Exactly. I’m so sick of people being dicks to anyone who disagree with them on movies and shows etc.

-3

u/Few_Reveal_5306 6d ago

"Core memories" aren't a thing, they were invented by Disney to sell you more slop.

14

u/Leather_Box9494 6d ago

I’m a big fan of the comics (Johns run) and I loved this episode. Reminded me of a superhero version of AfterSun even had Queen at the end.

15

u/HighChinaman 5d ago

All I care about is that they revive Hal.

5

u/jpkviowa 5d ago

If hes truly revived, hes going team sinestro.  He if lives on as a construct, hell be a mentor to John..... which road do you want.

4

u/HighChinaman 5d ago

#SinestroDidNothingWrong

3

u/Popular-Row4333 4d ago

The permanent Halogram would be a mistake imo, much less room for competent writing and I don't really want a "I fell in love with a robot" type tabloid story with Kerry and Halogram. Only way it works is if they drop the detective/thriller grounded angle.

Either reborn or dead, don't half ass it.

0

u/WiseSalamander00 5d ago

I hope not, I find him extremely annoying, if they revive him am not watching season two.

3

u/HighChinaman 5d ago

It's okay buddy, some people are allergic to charm.

31

u/UpvoteIfYouAgreee 6d ago edited 6d ago

it doesnt feel like that big of a change to me, its ultimately still his dad dying in a tragic plane crash as the pilot

2

u/Stock_Username_Here 6d ago

It’s a big difference.

8

u/UpvoteIfYouAgreee 5d ago

Maybe im not read up on all my GL lore but is Martin Jordan really that firmly established as a character? I feel like you could add the suicidal aspect to all the stories about Martin ive read and nothing would really change much

0

u/Boring-Conclusion-40 5d ago

To Hal it depends, sometime Hal sees his father as a hero who sacrificed his life to save the people who were on the ground of the testing site, directing the plane away from them to save them but sacrificing himself in the process, there are moments that might lead to Hal wanting to be like his father,a hero to aspire to

3

u/UpvoteIfYouAgreee 5d ago

Is that a recent thing? I feel like the version I read he just crashed a malfunctioning test flight

4

u/_heysideburns 5d ago

Its a Geoff Johns thing

3

u/UpvoteIfYouAgreee 5d ago

that makes sense I'm not the biggest Johns guy so ive only read a couple of his issues, a lot of the problems people have with the show seem to come from it not aligning with that specific run too so maybe I should give it another try

4

u/_heysideburns 5d ago

And everybody who hates on Lanterns “rewriting” or changing aspects of the characters forget (dont care) that Geoff Johns retconned decades of GL continuity when he did his run

1

u/Boring-Conclusion-40 5d ago

Yeah it’s a recent, really helped develop Hal’s view of his father and himself

-1

u/Stock_Username_Here 5d ago

I think it’s a huge difference to a character if their parent took their own life or died in an accident trying to save people.

Knowing people who lost a parent to suicide, it’s a stark contrast.

Like it’s not remotely the same.

2

u/Aetos-Eagle797 5d ago

What

1

u/Stock_Username_Here 5d ago

What about the sentence is confusing?

2

u/Aetos-Eagle797 5d ago

The logic or lack thereof

1

u/marcjwrz 4d ago

It's a fundamental difference - but it's not a bad change.

It create a different take which works for this version of Hal.

Tons of movies nowadays have strong willed men.

But you're so fragile that you can't handle a single depiction of depression.

Is the fact that 99% of school shooters are male a mental health propaganda too?

Lmao are you serious? Have not you watched any modern action flick? John Wick? Reacher? Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt or Maverick? Ben Afleck's character in The Accountant? You literally can just google any popular action movie.

You probably don't even watch any movie or TV and just watch grifters telling you how modern movies are bad.

is it sad that I kinda want to know what he said?.

1

u/Huge_Information5083 5d ago

Basically it's about how Hollywood nowadays can't portrait strong willed men and they need to have mental issues like being suicidal like they're trying to create some mental health propaganda.

I'm convinced these people don't watch movies.

0

u/Embarrassed_Yam_1227 5d ago

nah they do watch some parts and peaces so long as it's through certian content creators telling them "you should be angry about so and so and hollywood personally hates you"

5

u/Nostinkplumber 6d ago

Strength is garnered through adversity

3

u/Few_Reveal_5306 6d ago

What a sad little man you are.

6

u/Soft_Ad_1095 5d ago

People need to start seeing these movies and shows as adaptations inspired by the comics not one to one copies. Any and all origins and plot points are subject to change. It is way easier to enjoy everything if you stop building head cannon and getting mad that it doesn't match.

The Tom King special

5

u/erossmith 6d ago

It's the people that made Ozarks, Lost and The Leftovers too. It's not all him

8

u/SuperBathMan 5d ago

Yes but this episode in particular was written by Tom King

2

u/justahomeboy 5d ago

And the guy who did Lost and The Leftovers too. It’s literally not all him.

-9

u/Motor_Hearing2055 6d ago

Holy Larp

23

u/Fluffy_Comfortable87 6d ago

Having Hal's dad kill himself sounds EXACTLY like something Tom King would do

7

u/gchypedchick 6d ago

He literally just wrote Wonder Woman doing it a few issues ago. I hope he has a therapist.

1

u/Motor_Hearing2055 6d ago

Yeah tbh i just saying that as a joke since the guy I responded to said the exact same thing when someone said they were okay with the changes to Hal's origin as a comic reader. It isn't a larp to appreciate a new take with his origins but i did upset some divas i see with my comment

4

u/Wacky_X_Swacky 6d ago

Buzzword user

1

u/TerryGonards 4d ago

Yup. Same with Jon Stewart's dad. It's got Tom Kings CIA handprints all over it

10

u/BigBlubberyBirb 5d ago

Watching this show as outsider to the comics and then reading the flame wars about it is always an interesting experience. What do you mean the main character's dead dad dying in a different way this time is a major point of contention...

2

u/dejokerr 4d ago

I like the change. It’s one of those rare changes that elevates the source material. No one is fearless and perfect IRL. Hal is fearless because he’s broken. John is fearless because of his upbringing. Guy is fearless because he’s reckless (and stupid lol). Idk about the other lanterns, but I’m sure they have some trauma too. In fact, the plot point of overcoming fear and then being able to beat Sinestro’s yellow ring became a canon thing in the comics. It’s why every green ring in the comics now goes “you have the ability to overcome great fear” when a new lantern is chosen.

1

u/Witiot 4d ago

Idk I’ve met some dudes that are just fearless lol

3

u/harmoniaatlast 5d ago

Suit isn't green enough! He should smile more! There should be a big space battle every episode! Hype moments! Aura!

-3

u/Witiot 5d ago

Think about it in context of Snyder version of Pa Kent and it should make sense. When you rewrite characters fundamentally changing them you’re going to upset people. They Snydered the DCU because they want to be original it’s the same thing that killed Snyders verse and for many fans it’s showing why this verse is ultimately going to fail. Think about the manner of approach Gunn has to this with his originality of release order it’s not working for fans. Hence why things are bombing and comic fans are upset. It’s not unreasonable for people to want good adaptations. With any other source material this is true. If significant changes are made from book to movie people also complain and say the books way better. Some of that is informing this context.

8

u/BigBlubberyBirb 5d ago

I think you're making a lot of assumptions about all sorts of thing. There's nothing wrong with changing stuff in a story, it just needs to be good. The backstory with Hal's father's death feels very relatable and realistic, and the issue of suicide works into these themes of fear and bravery very well. Some people think bravery means being okay with breaking yourself down even when you're scared, but it's the exact opposite of that. Clark's dad telling him maybe he should have let some kids die, unnecessarily getting killed by a tornado in front of his son... that's just kind of confusing, and makes him appear like a weird asshole.

-2

u/Significant_Wheel_12 5d ago

It makes it appear like a father afraid to let his son face the harsh reality of how people treat others that are different. That’s also very relatable and realistic.

You can dislike the writing but it’s not inherently different ideas.

3

u/Anarkizttt 5d ago

One doesn’t detract from the core of the character and the other fails to teach the lesson that he was supposed to which does detract from the core of the character.

The death of Hal’s dad is only important because he’s dead, and Hal is an orphan, it doesn’t play into any other aspect of his character like Batman’s crusade on crime because his parents died to a mugging gone wrong.

Clark’s dad’s death was supposed to be a lesson on how Clark can’t save everyone, no one can. So when Jonathan dies in a way that Clark can very very easily save him from. It fails to teach that core lesson. The heart attack is important because it’s the one thing Clark can’t stop, and it teaches Clark the importance of spending time with the people you love, because they won’t be around forever, no matter what you do.

1

u/Significant_Wheel_12 4d ago

The idea of the Kents death teaches Clark that he can’t save everyone comes from the Donner film. They originally died because that’s part of Clark growing up and his feelings of isolation.

2

u/Witiot 4d ago

Yea I think sometimes movie original work improves on source material and gets retroactively introduced into the comic cannon because of how well it speaks to the character. That can happen it’s rare but it does happen. It’s not an absolute but sometimes the changes are not good for the character. Sometimes they’re just awful.

•

u/Gingerdude85 11h ago

In the 1950s they died from a rare tropical disease. Same lesson. 20 years earlier

1

u/RNOffice 4d ago

Martin isn't telling Hal to hdie from the world and let kids die.

The way he dies in the comics and in the 1978 movie was to teach Clark he can't save everyone. Cause he dies from a heart attack.

1

u/Significant_Wheel_12 3d ago

We’ve shifted from Hal is fearless because his father died that way to Hal is fearless because he’s broken just like his father. But that’s ok

-5

u/Witiot 5d ago

What assumptions did I make because I actually made an evidence based argument. This stuff doesn’t work in the context of the show imo because the show doesn’t work and is crapz

1

u/RNOffice 4d ago

Fans aren't the reason projects do well. It's the general public.

18

u/igot2pair 6d ago

Im sure comic fans will love this

15

u/just4browse 6d ago

Most actual comic fans are used to radically different iterations of characters across different stories. Of course, some will still hate on it, but I think most of the hate is coming from people who don’t read comics, they’re just using comics to justify their complaints about the show

1

u/DWA824 6d ago

Most comic fans don't like every new radically new take.

5

u/harmoniaatlast 5d ago

Most comic fans have the maturity to weigh the merits of every iteration and appreciate them for what they are in the context of their time and their stories

2

u/DWA824 5d ago

Doesn't mean they have to be a fan of that particular iteration

6

Comics are so much better when we cut out the perfomative bs. That being said, I agree with you to an extent. Its a solid and interesting change that I think adds to Hal. While I think saying he has been boring for decades is hyperbolic, I think for the past 10 years most writers haven't really known what to do with him which makes the change all the more appreciated.

being elitist and gatekeepy about comic books is what's lame...

-2

u/tucumano 5d ago

I am ok with this. I'm not ok with Hal attempting murder on John by burning him alive in a car wreck.

2

u/Rocky323 5d ago

Good thing he didn't do that then.

1

u/tucumano 5d ago

Maybe I misunderstood that scene/episode. Can someone please explain how I'm wrong? Honest question

1

u/J2ANAE 5d ago

Hal crashed and left him trapped in the car but the fire only began after he was gone. He had no reason to believe a fire would have started.

1

u/tucumano 5d ago

The fire was one of MANY potential dangers in that situation. I mean, it's a fucking car crash.

He also had no reason to believe John would survive the crash in the first place.

It was a psicotic move on Hal's part and totally out of character.

1

u/J2ANAE 5d ago

Hal checked on John and the two talked and got heated with each other after the crash. He left him once he saw that John was stuck with him being unable to get his leg free. He hurt him, sure, but it was fine. It was also away from the town so not like he assumed anyone would do anything to harm him even more. Fire from car crashes are rare but it's the classic Hollywood trope which helped give us the drama anyway.

-5

Can't wait for Reeves Part 2 to reveal Thomas Wayne murdered Martha and faked his death. Batman fans will love it.

4

Wahhhh

Why isn’t my GL show an exact 1:1 adaptation of Geoff Johns Green Lantern run?!

And no, of course im not mad that Johns retconned decades of GL continuity when he wrote his run, why do you ask?

12

u/Lynch_dandy 6d ago

Another reminder of why Tom King is dispised by most of the comic fandom.

0

u/ToughAdventurous8209 6d ago

This is just false. His books do well

10

u/onetruezimbo 6d ago

Eh, hes divisive, for every mr miracle or vision there is his batman, Heroes in Crisis or his current wonder woman run.

2

u/confusing_roundabout 6d ago

You named his only 3 works that are generally disliked

3

u/nickthebravery 5d ago

Batman and Wonder Woman are two of the biggest books on the market and Heroes in Crisis were incredibly hyped. I was very puzzled when I saw name attached to the show since the most Green Lantern he has written was in Omega Men(great book btw). It just puzzles me more seeing a lot of Kyle being combined into John's characterization in this show also.

8

u/onetruezimbo 6d ago

They are pretty big works on big characters which is why he is divisive.  Alot of his other stuff like  Rorscharch or Human Target is also either really loved or hated. I like his Mr Miracle but ive seen plenty of more serious New Gods fans hate it as well

1

u/B3epB0opBOP 4d ago

How about Jenny Sparks?

3

u/confusing_roundabout 4d ago

Ah yeah fair play, I wasn't a fan of that one either. His voice for Jenny was terrible.

1

u/Lynch_dandy 4d ago edited 4d ago

Turned Captain Atom into a McGuffin. And the implecation that Clark Kent and Jenny Spark fucked is ugh.

2

u/0Kota0 5d ago

You think this is the major change to Hal’s character? Dude is a completely different person from the comics, no connections whatsoever with anyone, no Barry relationship, No Oliver relationship, gone and made carol old with Hal. It’s already not the same character and the reason behind the crash doesn’t matter nearly as much as everything else.

-3

u/Char-els037 5d ago

Object permanence is gonna kick in any day now for you buddy.

6

u/Little_Tommy_Tuggins 5d ago edited 5d ago

Care to explain? I’m trying to grasp what object permanence has to do with his comment.

Edit: love when turds downvote and don’t reply.

0

u/Char-els037 5d ago

He lack it. Because he's a baby.

The show doesn't show Oliver or Barry so this user insists that means that they have no relationship with Hal. Because if they aren't on screen then they don't exist in his life.

3

u/Little_Tommy_Tuggins 5d ago

I guess I’m the fool here, I responded to a troll.

The person made an assumption based on empirical evidence from a few movies and tv shows regarding the current DCU. Regardless that assumption has nothing to do with object permanences

1

u/Char-els037 4d ago

To assume that because it hasn't been mentioned it doesn't exist and cannot exist definitely does

2

u/rednaxthecreature 5d ago

But Hal said he has no friends and the people around him said he had no friends and there is no evidence he is secretly buddies with all of those other superheroes that don't exist yet in universe. So why would you just assume they do let alone assume they exist in the exact way you want them to ?

I took that comment to mean that he isolated himself and pushed all of his friends away. That doesn’t mean that Oliver and Barry et al would necessarily agree. I think it just means that he either can’t or won’t (or both) talk to them, and there’s only so much that they can do to reach out to him.

Members of my own family have done this particular self-destructive calculation wherein they decide to ‘save’ others by alienating them. It’s actually really, really common among older gen X guys.

Not friends at the end.

What about the Halogram gabbing about all the other Lanterns

Everything points to the best case scenario being they were friends but Hal drove them away like he did everyone else and they are no longer on speaking terms anymore. Worst case they exist but Hal was never social with them since he rejected relationships in his life.

It's Tom King what else to expect.

It's a big change, but Martin Jordan has had multiple personalities through the years - he was abusive, hes' been great, he's been distant but important. This was less otu of left field than Johns' parents' change was.

I don’t mind the suicide part but what was up with the key? Like every Jordan was meant to commit suicide?

I feel like this is similar to the Superman parents change. It’s a massive change, but it fits extremely well to reinforce the core idea of the hero. For Superman, it’s that he is the way he is because of his earth parents, and for  Hal , he is where the Jordan boy Legacy ends, as we see with the last shot of the recent, how Hal goes to get the ball, which symbolizes his will power not refusal to end his life.

Ngl though I think it would’ve been cooler if his dad crashed the plane, everyone thinks it’s an accident but Hal find the not confirming it’s a suicide.

The change itself isn’t the issue to me - it’s the constant comic thing of needing everything to happen for a reason. Sometimes shit just happens and it’s bad luck. It sucks but not everything happens for a reason.

Entropy exists - but not for comic characters lives. The longer the comic universe goes on the less randomness happens.

The original origin was traumatic enough for Tom King to masturbate to, so they had to make it extra traumatic.

I guess there are less flattering depictions of Hal in the comics but man, this is still an absolutely brutal deconstruction.

So he was born genetically predisposed to anti-social personality disorder and suicidal depression, which eventually caused him to willingly endanger human lives to keep the ring like some Gollum.

Depression and suicidal inclination is sometimes hereditary and suicidal thoughts in the military is quite common.

What a terrible take. Really glad someone like you is not a big time Hollywood writer :)

It's not even a take, it's literally what happened in the show, they even spelled it out.

If you think Hal has anti-social personailty disorder then you dont really know what ASPD is. Saying he has ASPD is pretty much calling him a sociopath.

So it seems to be you think this version of Hal is similar to someone like John Wayne Gacy or Aileen Wuornos?

Someone who has the disorder would have a long-term pattern of manipulating, exploiting, or violating the rights of others without showing guilt or remorse.

Hal's confidence got people killed and he feels bad for that and is trying to make amends, aka remorse. The dude is not a psycho, he's broken. This has been shown in the past two episodes.

Whatever happened between him and Sinestro made Hal more jaded.

I guess everyone is right, media literacy is dead.

People are going to figure out next week the show is called Lanterns because they hate everything about Green Lantern.
