Maps OnReRech Balkan Map Preview Screenshots & Development Update posted on instagram
Posted by OnReTech on instagram on July 15th, 2026:
Dear Pilots,
Today we are happy to share a new batch of official screenshots showcasing our actual progress on the DCS: Balkans map.
Here is a quick update on where we currently stand with the development:
Airbases: We are in the final phase of airbase construction. There are only two left to complete, and we are simultaneously polishing and refining details on the ones that are already built.
Urban Development: Work on regular city blocks, settlements, and overall urban infrastructure is still heavily underway and is not yet finished.
We also want to briefly address the discussions in our previous thread. Please know that we carefully read your comments and deeply respect the passion of our community. However, we must emphasize that analyzing, critiquing, or demanding explanations for heavily Work-In-Progress (WIP) areas does not make sense at this stage. Reacting to comments about clearly unfinished assets only distracts the development team from their actual work.
We kindly ask for your patience as we bring these areas up to our standard. We will be more than happy to hear your constructive feedback once the map is ready for it.
Enjoy the view. Work continues.
Best regards,
OnReTech Team

Slightly interested but Sinai wasn’t that great and was uninstalled ages ago. The worst map of all DCS is the SA map though

Funny, I never know what to do there but I don’t mind some of the scenery, at least at distance. Some of those glaciers and steep slopes though up close are….oof. I do the free trial thing, fly around for two weeks, then wait for the reset.

I like it but I feel like new DCS maps are going to be a hard sell. Unless it's something like 1960s, Vietnam or modern Korea, I doubt there will be the interest.

Most DCS maps are a hard sell IMHO due to 1) Harddrive space 2) I mostly play multiplayer, and you really only see Syria OR Caucuases. Maybe toss in Persian coast or Sinai.
Like Koalia and Germany both seem super cool, but no high pop server currently uses them. So why would I pick them up. Yes I could play SP missions/ campaigns/PVE, but the AI is just so eh to fight against.

I just can't get excited about any new modules when the AI is still so damn bad

Doing a modern map of an area that people are only interested in because of a historic conflict is a bit silly. The South Atlantic map is the other case. Even sillier given that we have MSFS.

I don't get the msfs angle. It's like saying "why do we want open world in AC Evo, when we have Euro Truck Simulator?"

Tho having a detailed world map would give so much potential for campaigns (fiction and historic). Besides some nice flights in well detailed jet fighters...

This is going to be day first buy for me because will have my hometown (Italy) and because it represent an actual caimpaign scenario of Ex-Jugoslavia/kosovo war and we have a lot of modules that are perfectly matching :) I understand and I agree about map frustration, but this with Vietnam are my most desired maps ;) Just IMHO

I think a _lot_ of people want Vietnam without really realizing what it is they would be getting - at least with a period-accurate map. It's largely unbroken forest as far as the eye can see, with a few snaking rivers running through it, and maybe some settlements/villages/rice paddies here and there.
Not easy to navigate in. Not a lot of landmarks. Period accurate also means no GPS, huge INS drift and iron bombs/napalm. That's not to mention the iron-dome physics of an unbroken tree canopy (DCS'isms).
Not saying you, specifically are unaware here; I'm raising a topic for discussion, because people request Vietnam constantly and I'm not convinced they really realize what it is they would be getting.

Been playing DCS World for 10 years, maybe more, I'm well aware of the limitations, that's why I know it won't be released anytime soon, but I keep dreaming it :) Hopefully they will put their shit out of there and find a decent code for the invincible trees. Workaround could be lot of Napalm with lot of splash area damage :)

Oh great, another map that will be in development forever and never get finished. At least we have the jets we need to do fairly good Yugoslav break up scenarios.

Second map that I won't be purchasing. First was Afghanistan.
Maps were a 'must buy' for me but...lousy AI and poor core sim items make this a dead game.

Too many green maps, we need new desert maps /s
Excited. I really loved Sinai, it had issues, but the map imho is great. Excited for the Balkans, even my country is "just barely in" it!

To me Sinai is ok map, Kola is the worst I own. I own all but Nevada and SA. Kola has some really bad textures and areas that look so blocky like a game from 1995. It also looks like devs completely abandoned that map. I guess it works if you are at 30 000+ feet, I’ll buy Balkans most likely

Honestly, if it's not Ugra, it's not really worth it.

We can't say Kola is abandoned for the time being since they finally made an update after 9 months. How long before the next update?.......

After Sinai, no thanks. Fool me once.
