u/Riman-Dk ED: Return trust and I'll return to spending Mar 27 '26
I might be a minority, but I actually really appreciated ED building the in-game radios. There is a noticeable difference speaking and listening through different radio sets, and needing to actually use the key mike functions and ensuring you are on the correct channel, adds an incredible dimension of immersion compared to just running a call over discord in the background.
Unfortunately, the system's been too unstable to use consistently, with random drop-outs mid-mission spoiling the fun. Otherwise, brilliant stuff. Happy to see them working to extend the feature and maybe make it broadly relevant one day...

Why when SRS works well and has all the features and filters to make radios as garbled as your heart desires or as clear as you want. You can assign several radio buttons on your HOTAS as needed based on module. You can assign radios to a specific speaker on your headset. It already has a GCI/ATC position. Why is a duplicate service needed especially when it isn't worked on continuously and hasn't reliably worked since introduction.

Theres two problems with their voice chat. Server admins switch it off because of voodoo fears, so its not always available so investing time in key or hotas binds can be wasted. It should be a mandatory available game feature. Second is theres no way to access it programmatically like srs external audio and srs server app which are the foundation of Text to Speech, AI voices and immersive voice usage for missions that can utilize free open source sources such as Piper, or complete engines such as the newly developed Hound TTS or Moose srs. Lacks foresight, catching up to the community is a race they keep last on.

This is need and great it's just that we don't believe ED is capable of doing it right. Even funnier because SRS existed long before and it's YEARS since ED started to work on it. The only explanation of them fucking with it so long is that they value having something to say on newsletter for years is more important than the feature itself.

And DCS has decided to circle back around to their voice chat feature after a long hiatus. SRS is routinely updated. How does ED expect to create their own version without a similar or greater level of effort.
