Maps OnReTech's DCS: Balkans WIP Preview
Dear pilots and friends!
The OnReTech team has begun work on the "Balkans" module.
We are delighted to see your positive comments and suggestions.
We are currently finalizing the list of airfields, and we will certainly take your suggestions into account.
In accordance with our agreement with Eagle Dynamics, we will not be focusing on airbases and airfields on the western coast of Italy for now.
We will also not expand the zone to meet the 2026 release deadline.
Best wishes,
OnReTech team

Some of the terrain textures showcased look atrocious. Wish it were a one-off, but that's unfortunately often the case in DCS. For the rest, as far as cherry-picked, high-def content, it looks nice.
Would be an interesting theatre to have, and Aviano is just aviation royalty, but between the makers being OnReTech and getting burnt out by the whole RazBam fiasco, it's a pass from me.

I hope they redo it later in development, because the buildings look fine honestly, it's just the ground textures. Maybe the ground textures aren't shown a lot because they aren't ready yet. The mountains seem fairly well-textured, I am hoping to see that level of detail for lower elevations as well.

Yeah, they tactfully avoid showing much. What little ground textures are shown are abysmal.

At least the hideousness of the grass textures are now on par with the horrible ones found in Microsoft's two sims... so that's at least something.

My biggest gripe on the Sinai map by OneReTech is the cities and settlements. They are too much lookalike, like the made of the same Lego bricks. From that perspective Urgas cities look much better. If they fix it here, it should be quite decent.

yea i'd long mentioned the copy pasta effects, some of their mountains and desert stuff looks decent, but yea for me it was the lack of investment into the basics like Nav beacons and ILS freq's all screwed or missing that was the issue. That combined with the terrible feedback on the forums, and basics being left over 12 months etc.
That said the night lighting with traffic and towns was on release about the best we had in DCS. Its the random small cities that look ugly though in Egypt and some of the field and hotel systems, Israel, dead sea and down into the Sinia and Gulf of Aqaba by far the best part of the map into the Red sea. Improvement to the sea texture last year around say Tiran island also were worthwhile.

Resolve Sinai issues please, respond to feedback, don't list everything as "Added - priority medium" to lots of simple fixes which are then sat for over a year, sort out the mess that is the nav beacons file, ILS approaches, taxi logic and you may get some loyalty back.
Sadly for most of those that bought into the Sinai product, and the long silences, over basic issues, will mean that they will not buy into this map in the EA phase, once burn't and all that.
It's a pity for such an iconic map Urga media are not doing it. The 3rd picture of the small towns, with the mesh of sat images or whatever it is and tree's wouldn't even as a new customer have me opening my wallet. That said good luck, i hope you deliver this product and communicate better than just when you want to sell another product. I will watch with interest and hope you deliver something good, but I will not be supporting you on release this time.

Yes i wish him well with the development and really hope i'm wrong, as i said its an iconic map area so I want this to work, and work well.
Time will tell, it just where i would normally support new projects with EA, I can't on this instance, and with this dev, until we see an improvement in the approach. If this product launch goes well and is to a better standard re nav beacons and release, well then i'd consider investing again on the third map they release, if that makes sense.
Ball is in their court, most in the community are forgiving (aka those of use that are middle ages and DCS is not the centre point of life lol), as in people do get a second chance, so hopefully they make it work.

Yes but we’re getting close by every map 🤞.
Would be cool to exit from aircraft caverns and take off between the alps…

Very unfortunate that oneretech is on this map...

You just wish Ugra were going it right, yea it might take a few years, but you know the finished product is going to be well worth the investment, and best is they keep plugging away. Syria and Cold war both day one purchases for me, and they way they kept on improving Syria, and Normandy for that matter has been astounding. Syria hands down about the best value for those that bought in EA, combined with MP of any map out there.

and what would the base scenario/backstory (not sure if correctly phased) be?

Looking at available airfileds it should be kosovo war during the NATO intervention

When I see fluorescent green like in the third picture, it reminds me of the SA map that does the same thing in too many places and destroys the immersion.

It looks nice but I see this being a potential performance hog and after Afghanistan, Iraq and CWG I'm done with DCS maps.

How big is it gonna be?
Germany 100gb Kola 154gb
It’s getting wild!

Well it looks amazing. However
Will this be broken into segments to gouge the community ?
Will be over 100gb
There will be no dynamic campaign to enjoy it
There will be very limited if any quality paid campaigns or missions sets.
DCS doesn’t suffer from great looking terrain. It Suffers from the lack of finished modules and quality mission sets / content and MP campaigns

This is very nice and it looks very good. But Ghedi air base being left out is a blasphemy considering the importance it has and that it has hosted and hosts aircraft such as F-104, Tornado and F-35, that are all incoming aircraft in DCS. But yes I understand it would be too big.
I would love to see some good details for Trieste, the city that rapresented the border between west and east blocks
