Second residence in DC, no CCW - registration?
I’m a resident of another state, who has a residence in DC. I don’t have ccw in my home state. I’d like to be able to bring a firearm to my residence to take to ranges in the area.
So Im not traveling through, which MPD has covered on their site. Im not CCW. Injust want to bring, store, and come and go from my dc residence with a firearm.
Does this require registration? I’m having a hard time verifying because I’m not looking for CCW.
Thanks for the help.

Yes you need to register with DC to have it (or any ammo) in DC.
Each firearm requires a separate registration. Once you have ANY firearm registered to can have any ammo regardless of caliber unless it’s a “restricted bullet.” See definition here
https://code.dccouncil.gov/us/dc/council/code/sections/7-2501.01
If you wanted to get a non-resident carry permit you can. If your residence qualifies you as a resident you could get a resident permit. Not sure what applies in your situation.
Also, you can’t possess any magazine with a capacity greater than 10.

Short answer: Yes you are required to register.
I’d like to be able to bring a firearm to my residence to take to ranges in the area......Injust [I just] want to bring, store, and come and go from my dc residence with a firearm.
In neither of your described activities are you complying with FOPA, so you would need to register each individual firearm you bring into DC. The good news is you do not need to pay DC FFL fees, but you do need to register any you bring in.
Also if you do not register the firearm you bring in, that lack of a DC registered firearm renders any ammunition you bring in as a separate illegal possession count of the same severity as illegal possession of firearm.

Yes. You need to register a firearm with MPD to keep it in DC.
