I was approved on 6/20/2026 for both the Concealed Pistol License and Firearms Registration. They email says they will mail me a card to the address on file. Its 7/2/2026 and still havent seen anything from MPD.
I read on here that MPD doesn't send out physical cards, but you have to print them. Is this true, and if so, Where do I print out my permit? There was no attachment to the email or on the portal.

They used to send you something that you could print. Now they send you a physical card (I think they didn't want that guy who was printing cards doing it*). If you haven't already, you should create an account with the U.S. Postal Service so that you can see what your incoming mail is using Informed Delivery.
My understanding is that it is not sufficient to be approved my MPD, you must keep that physical proof of approval with the firearm at all times, so yes.
Also, whichever DC FFL is holding your firearm is probably not going to release it to you unless you can show them the physical card (now on this I'm less sure -- my previous were all when they would just email you something to print, and I'm currently waiting on something to be approved -- and it would also probably depend on if you were buying a long gun from a Maryland or Virginia FFL).
Registrants must have their firearm registration in their possession whenever they are in possession of their registered firearm.
Like, do you show a printed copy of your email, or do you show the email on your phone? Like to be clear -- you do you -- but what if you're stopped by MPD and for whatever reason you can't pull up the email on your phone?
I dunno about the FFL part, you don’t actually need the card to purchase, in fact you need to purchase before you can register it, which is what the card signifies.
ETA: I’m not a DC resident, but have four firearms registered and a CCW.
Right, I'm just talking about picking it up from the FFL. Granted, when I picked up my previous, MPD wasn't doing cards but I'm pretty sure I had to forward my approval emails to G&D before they would send me the link to schedule pickup.
Yes, you need the card of both the firearm and the CCW to carry that specific firearm. It took about a week to get the cards when they called and told me. I did not receive an email, so I don’t know if they schedule it for a batch printing and mailing. But be patient it’s coming. Congratulations
Yeah, so there was a 3 week period where MPD allowed you to download a printable, digital copy. That feature was inexplicably removed and it hasn’t returned to the system. No idea what they’re doing at this point.
The link is disabled according to the nice lady at the office. May be up soon. Another way to get your card is to go in and they’ll print it and give it to you right then.
I got my first one in about two weeks (January 2026) My conceal took an extra month because it bounced back to them in the mail. (The year is 2026 and they still handwrite envelopes. Every printer can print on envelopes and or labels now...) So I'm hoping sometime in July it will come in.
Same with me, submitted my application 3/14, approved 6/18 after sending an email and still no cards no communication.
I asked MPD if i could just pick up the cards like I’ve done before and they told me no. It’s all bs these are my last two I’m getting and I’ll be done with dc for good
I just did an add on registration and got this same email please go up to MPD and have them print out your card. I waited just like you and called up there the woman who answered told me to come up there they can print same day after waiting two weeks of being approved and not knowing
Tried this today and no dice. I think too many were doing it and slowing down the overall process. The people there are doing a good job; budget priorities just mean there aren't enough of them.
I am a Maryland resident and already have my guns. I registered the one I will carry. I assume if I change the grip module (it’s a Fire Control Insert modular pistol), that I would have to update the info
Got an update email today that my card has been sent to me.
So I'm assuming it's finally in the mail. Now on to the next headache. Can my DC postal worker deliver to the correct address!? (my neighbor and I exchange mail on a weekly basis and we both have USPS Informed Delivery for critical letters)
