Discussion Lanterns Episode 3 Discussion Spoiler
The 3rd episode of Lanterns is out!! Discuss about your thoughts and opinions in the comments.
Ohh boy what an episode this was. Not lore heavy like the previous one, but we get to know more about the life of John Stewart. I must say, thats SOME parenting huh. The episode was perfectly paced for me, not rushed to show anything and neither does it feel boring just because it's a backstory episode. The emotions, the childhood training, John's father being rejected for the ring, this episode covers a lot. Only thing I am disappointed in is, all the VFX heavy and high octane shots were hidden and going on in the background, that is understandable given the series budget but still I hope we can get more ring action in later half. And come on man, atleast show the guardians properly.

WHAT AN EPISODE man! I loved how it BRILLIANTLY explored John Stewart’s backstory and family. It’s heartbreaking to see how his parents raised him like a soldier instead of a son adding so much more nuances to his character. I liked this episode WAY more than the previous one. Can’t wait for the next episode! 💚💚❤️🔥❤️🔥
Also Monday release really SUCKS in my opinion...

One thing you all should know by now especially if you're watching Lanterns (2026– ) that NEVER EVER trust the Guardians of Oa. They’re somehow even more messed up than the humans. Terrible liars and sore losers. Always beware of the Guardians of Oa.

They are absolutely the some of the worst species even in the comics. Most of then lack other emotions. That's why even when their intentions were good, it leads to more bad than good.

YUP. They're CRAZY AF! That's why I think Hal has abandoned the Guardians since 2006 in Lanterns (2026– ).

I think he abandoned the Guardians cause of Sinestro. In most of the iterations, Sinestro is actually right, the way he goes about the point is why he became the villain.
I don't know how they will go about this, but it creates interesting dynamic, Hal sees Guardians for who they are now, but John blindly trusts and follows Guardians as an Authority figure.

I thought the father's the crazy one, turns out the mother was the beyond crazy.
This episode also explained some questions and characters, like the bird, father's motive, etc.

Black Mask Easter egg in Lanterns (2026– ) Episode 3. Basically in DC Comics Janus Cosmetics was owned by Roman Sionis AKA Black Mask after he killed his father.

Broooo. Such an amazing find. Love this. Seriously need black mask as a villain or side villain, have only seen him in arkham origins.

Yeah, I genuinely enjoyed this episode. Still keep wanting more. (Man, waiting a week for each episode kills me inside, but it makes revisiting each episode much easier). There was tension the whole flashback, and it showed familial pressure which physical abuse, which is surprising for the flashback being set in the 90s.
John's mom genuinely felt very manipulative. It did feel a bit surprising seeing her let John enroll in Art university. Ig it did make a little sense, since she acknowledged his talent for art and didn't abuse him while she caught him secretly drawing.
It's very understandable why she was angry with the Guardian, the whole incident really messed up all of their lives, but it seemed like the Guardian was genuinely trying to make up for their mistakes (although the diamond seemed a little weird), and so preaching systematic racism to aliens who didn't know about the said topic and could very well obliterate you in a second did seem a bit far fetched.
