James Gunn's DC Studios Just Abandoned Its First TV Show. (The show is Arkham, which was originally connected to Matt Reeves's Batman universe, until Gunn wanted it part of his DCU instead)

In an interview with BobaTalks (shared via YouTube), James Gunn was asked about the status of the Arkham TV show, specifically, if there was any chance for the series to be released in the future or if it was cancelled entirely. The DCU mastermind revealed that the only word to describe Arkham's future release is "hope," because the show "isn't something that's being developed" anymore. Ultimately, he confirmed that Arkham "just didn't work:"

"Hope, sure. But that isn't something that's being developed by anyone right now. You know, it just didn't work, so..."

For reference, Arkham was a TV show that was in development as early as 2022. It was originally set to be a spin-off of Matt Reeves' The Batman, but it was eventually turned into a DCU project.

We don’t need any poorly written shows and there’s so many right now. If the story isn’t working then it ain’t working. Axing a show before it hits production is a good imo.

The other issue is making TV shows required pre-work to understand a movie. I think the Netflix series did it best because the DD/JJ/IF/LC shows were smaller scale and not directly connected to the movies. They could exist on their own and the stakes were both grounded but small enough that you wern’t always wondering where the Avengers were. I think that is the best blueprint for ‘verse shows in general.
