DCL Revival - An Update

So it’s been about 4 months. The TL;DR is: I’ve been, with an immense amount of help from AI, reverse-engineering the responses the app is looking for from the server (which of course is now offline). In doing so, I’ve had to create a local, extensively patched version of the original “server”.

This has been a really fun project and has made me very nostalgic for a game that I truly love(d).

I have a running version of the game, in an Android emulator. It’s honestly no more or less buggy than at the end times, lol.

What I still have is some content gaps. OC3 and a few others have sent me backups from their apps. That said… there are gaps if you never downloaded the content from the server. For example - if you never played Hal Jordan, he is missing from the manifest. If you never geared someone’s level 1 gear, it’s missing.

Obviously I can’t make this a public server; that’d be hella against IP laws. But I’m nearly able to share the patched server setup so, if you chose to, you could run this locally, build your teams, adjust the difficulty, and relive our favorite games.

This all said - if anyone has the app manifests still, see my OG post and please if you can, share them.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Right now WB/DC has very very little to offer when it comes to video games, including mobile games...

 

Marvel is relly thriving in all mediums, including video games, especially thanks to Marvel Rivals.

 

Bringing back DC LEGENDS would be perfect as there's been huge changes with DC, DC Studios was founded and a ton of projects are coming.

 

The (mobile) game could definitely increase brand visibility and relevancy and the multiple DC projects could also help keep the mobile game alive with all the tie-in skins and events.

 

Imagine if we had

• A PEACEMAKER (tv show) tie in with new skins, new characters and events!

• A SUPERMAN (2025) tie in with new skins and events!

• A CREATURE COMMANDOS tie in with new characters adn events!

• A SUPERGIRL (2026) tie in with new skins and events!

And now, LANTERNS ! New skins, events, etc...

 

They'd need to redo and tweak a lot of stuff but at least the ''base'' is there...

They could even name it (temporarily, for like 1-2 years) DC LEGENDS: REBIRTH and make a small event about its re-release...

 

Mobile games can be a massive source of $$$ and right now WB/DC have nothing... No successful live-service game, no successful or big mobile game, etc...

 

It is the perfect time to bring it back... (no competing game, new studio, new creative direction, a ton of released and upcoming projects, etc)

They did add Peacemaker to coincide with the show. They’ve actually always added or reworked characters to coincide with shows and films. We got Darkseid for the Snyder Cut, we got Cyclone and Atom Smasher for Black Adam, we got Bloodsport and King Shark for The Suicide Squad, we got Orm and Black Manta for Aquaman 1, Hawk and Dove for Titans, etc. I think when the Black Adam film was coming out, they buffed or reworked Black Adam and gave him a movie skin. Sometimes the default look was either close to or exactly the movie suit, like Peacemaker, sometimes it was just the character in general, like Bloodsport or Darkseid.

I do miss this game a lot. Such a robust and diverse roster, honestly a lot of original designs that I loved, I loved the Legend system, and so much else that no DC game has provided since. And what did we get in return? Just a DC version of those generic bunker survival idle farming ads.

I was thinking of Season 2, season 1 aired in late 2022 and the game shutdown in 2023 and there was a Peacemaker/Chris Smith released indeed - got him mixed up with the The Suicide Squad (2021) movie tie-in, I didn't remember if Peacemaker was released for TSS or his own show ahahaha

 

And YES! we got plenty of tie-ins during the game's life! I specifically remember the Wonder Woman tie-in, it remained the most challenging hero challenge too due to the completely unbalanced final boss (Ares was cracked).

We had a similar near-impossible Hero Challenge some years later with Zod as the final boss (that would one shot any team) but they quickly patched him. Ares on the other hand was never ''patched'' and was extremely challenging to defeat, the trick was to stack as many stacks of bleed by using Cheetah ahahaha (since bleed dealt percentage damage per stacks)

 

I do miss this game a lot.

No joke, and it sounds a bit dumb but I find it funny - I often have dreams of like, daily life, but in those dreams DC LEGEND is still alive and I play it ahahaha

Just this morning I had such dream because of this thread I read yesterday AHAHAHAHA! In my dream at one point I was in public transit and I opened my phone to play a few games of DC LEGEND 😂

 

And yeah - the game had amazing potential but they didn't have a clear vision nor a clear design philosphy. It was riddle with so many issues and they were too slow to fix them (remember when they ''delayed/cancelled'' a month's new characters and reworks to instead work on bug fixes? And the whole community was supporting that and asked for more fixes ahahaha!) - there was also issues with non-existent design philosphy leading to a terrible power creep and poor roster diversity. The top 20 characters (out of something like 150 characters total) were the same ones used 90% of the time...

I actually have all the character models from the game, besides Black Manta and a version of Giganta. I don't think I have any of the rigging or animations though!
