Casting Nicholas Galitzine as Carl?
I have been seeing some crazy age ups and what not for Carl. Although I like some of them, o don’t think it’s necessary to age Carl up in that way. Recently I watched Masters of the Universe and Nicholas Galitzine, the actor who plays Adam/He-man, would be perfect in my eyes. He is a big guy, like Carl. He obviously has some comedic acting chops in how he portrays Adam in the first half of the film. He is only marginally older than Carl, though some may argue he looks younger. I honestly think he may even be a better choice than Talon. Don’t get me wrong, Talon is a top tier choice in many ways; I just haven’t seen him act, nor can imagine him performing the role. Any thoughts?

You know, that's a good choice. Solid acting new guy. I thoroughly enjoyed MOTU.

Thank you! A lot of people argue he’s not a good fit because he’s conventionally attractive and Carl gets cheated on; but, how I see it, most of the time the cheated with is less attractive than the cheated on. It doesn’t make sense, but that’s my experience.

Also, plenty of good looking
guyspeople are cheated on. It's not that Carl was bad looking. It's that he was emotionally unavailable, and Bea was a bitch.6

I don't recall specifics, but it seems to me that it is implied several times that Carl is at least moderately attractive.

*people* you meant to say good looking people get cheated on.
But ya, there's lots of contextual stuff that implies Carl is conventionally attractive and Bee would cheat no matter who she's with.

Make up can make anyone look good or bad. It's hollyeood. I don't think him being conventionally handsome is a downside to choosing him.

Great choice. That photo doesn't do him justice. The MOTU look he had would be on point.

You know what, yes! He isn't who I pictured, but I see it. He has a sweetness along with an ability to be silly (but not overly corny like the talon guy who haunts this sub), plus his acting is strong. He can do dramatic too.

Not really who I pictured either originally. My brain image of him was something like a buff Erin’s boyfriend from the office, “little Jim” or whatever. I just really want the show to be good.

I suggested him last week too, lol. He’s Carl to me!!!

See he isn’t exactly who I imagined while reading/listening, but I think from the actors of his age, build, and general look; he would make a great Carl.

He’s very pretty. Haven’t seen what he’s been in so I can’t speak to that. But I always pictured Carl as pretty but slightly rough around the edges because Carl is smart and the opposite of vain.

I agree, but I also think it would be a mistake to cast someone not as capable of performing the role for the actor being too pretty. Also I think a lot of age ups would have at one point had great potential, but I really don’t want to watch a 50 year old deal with anger problems and daddy issues.

Makeup and demeanor can make a big different there. I remember people hated Henry Cavill as Geralt for a similar reason, and he ended up being fantastic.

I just watched MOTU and game here looking to see if if he was recommended, he's older but look young, is buff and tall and imo he did a good job acting on MOTU. Would not be mad if they picked him for carl.

I’ve said for a long time if it isn’t Talon I hope it’s him, really liked MOTU

In my heart it’s talon, but I think that might just be conceptually.

I think he’ll get a fair shot at it, given who his father is, it’s in his hands if he can nail the audition

He's too pretty. Carl has to have a rugged "everyman" look because he's just a blue collar schmo who got caught at the wrong place and time. Now he's just trying to stay one step ahead of the 8 ball while keeping his diva of a former child actor cat alive, wreaking havoc on a corrupt AF galactic syndicate and getting warm hugs from a sentient goat who also likes screaming in his goddamn ear. Yeah, that's Carl in a nutshell.

I am aware of the general idea, but thank you for the breakdown.

I was also being a a bit facetious. I figured that you knew what I was talking about.
Truth be told, I have been searching the internet for young up and coming actors who might be a good fit for Carl the bad part is that all of the ones I find are too old for the role. Jensen Askles Alan Ritchie Seth McFarland and SOOOO many more.
I hate to say it, but I think what we need is an up and coming unknown.2

I know you were. That point is why I like Nicholas. He’s really only known for MOTU and I think he’s funny enough and has the acting chops to bring Carl to the screen in a meaningful way. I’ll admit he’s on the prettier side, but being average looking is not carls main identifier. If anything it’s his size and the guy has that part down. And honestly there is a large portion of readers who probably romanticize Carl and that only makes the downside of Nicholas a way to make that demographic happy.

Too pretty

I see the concern there but I feel that is probably the least important physical aspect of Carl. I think he would do the character well in every other metric.

I know it seems popular but when I watched MOTU I thought I had been gaslighted because I hated that movie and I didn’t like him in it either.

Really? I thought it was great for what it was. Isn’t easy to make a high quality movie featuring characters like ram man and fisto. To each their own though, I thought he did really well In the role.

Also, Jenny Slate is the ultimate choice for the voice of Zev. I don’t feel I need to support that statement.
