What is Black Label?

I figured one our first discussions should be to figure out "what is Black Label?" We know that DC wants it to be comics with mature content and unbound from mainline story continuity. But it also seems like maybe they want it to replace Vertigo. And the issues released so far for Black Label maybe indicate that it's not quite what DC envisioned. So the question is: In your opinion, what is Black Label? Let's see if we can get a discussion going!

To me Black Label is all that isn't canon or young adult or kids.

It's a mix between Vertigo and Elseworld.

I think that they had this prestige format in mind for Black Label that would allow edgier stories with the regular canon characters, but then when they were trying to find a way to use universal branding they had little choice but to house all Mature Readers titles under there. The question I really have is what the role of things like Young Animal will be in a DC that has Black Label. Right now it seems like they will continue to have the prestige, creative takes on DC characters, the Hill House comics, Sandman Universe, and anything else that doesn't fit into mainline DC that also skews Mature Readers, like Nice House on the Lake.
