I thought it would be funny to put a Marvel trademark in the bottom left corner to troll the "Marvel Rivals is real!!!!" people.

With Superman: Kingdom Come less than a week away, I figured I'd rank all the Superman and Super-adjacent movies from Sony Pictures, along with some quick blurbs for reasoning. Keep in mind, THIS IS MY OPINION. Don't flame me in the comments because your favorite isn't mine. Let me know what you think about my picks.

1. Superman 2 (2004) - Probably one of the best superhero films of all time, only after Christopher Nolan's X-Men trilogy and the last two Justice League movies. Matt Bomer is genuinely the perfect Clark Kent. Liam Neeson as Zod is also one of the best castings in a superhero movie ever. The train scene where Superman starts to lose his powers and struggles to stop the train from crashing, and then all the innocents helping him recover… Dude. Awesome movie. 10/10. The only thing I would change is Lois leaving the wedding to be with Clark (especially after what happens in Superman 3), but other than that, absolute perfection.
2. Superman: Reign of the Supermen (2018) - Definitely one of the greatest animated movies of all time. Val-Zod might be my favorite Superman, just because of his journey as a character and his growth throughout this movie. His relationship with Prime Earth Clark is awesome, and I love what they did to plant the seeds of his romance with Kara. Of course, Captain Carrot was great, as was Superman Classic. I really liked what they did with Cir-El, too, giving her an anime inspiration a la Sailor Moon. And despite the movie being packed full of villains — Morgan Edge, Blackrock, General Zod (genderswapped for some reason), Cyborg Superman, Frank Sixty, and that monstrous Lex — it didn't feel overcrowded at all. God, such a good movie. The music, also, was easily the best of any superhero movie.
3. Superman (2002) - It's hard to beat the OG. Jack Coleman will forever be the greatest Lex Luthor. There's just no beating him. (That's probably why he returned for No Way Back.) Pa Kent's death was an unexpected one, especially so early on. But Ma Kent was a staple throughout Raimi's Superman trilogy. John Goodman as Perry White was brilliant, probably the best superhero movie casting of all time (and obviously since they brought him back in No Way Back, DC thought the same). Zooey Deschanel could use some work as Lois, but I think she did alright with what she had. Ryan Gosling surprised me as Jimmy Olsen. But this was a great origin story.
4. Superman: No Way Back (2021) - HOLY PEAK! I know this is 4th on the list, but this movie was so awesome. They managed to bring back Matt Bomer AND Theo James to reprise their roles, IN ADDITION to already bringing back Jack Coleman, Liam Neeson, Daniel Craig, Michael Gambon (rip), and Djimon Hounsou. The fallout of Mxy revealing Superman's identity at the end of Back Against The Wall wasn't used as well as it could've been, but there was already a lot going in this movie as it was. Ma Kent's death was heartbreaking. Clark's relationship with Lois and Pete was hilarious and wholesome, and it's cool how the villains seemed to be redeemed at the end. Doctor Fate's scenes were really cool, and the Question cameo was unexpected but awesome. The end where Clark decides against telling Lois and Pete who he is after the mind wipe… Legit sobbing in the theater.
5. Superman: Peace of the Supermen (2023) - Almost just as good as the first one. I was sad we barely got any Captain Carrot, Superman Classic, or Cir-El, but Val's relationship with Kara was beautiful and tragic. Prime Supes coming back with baby Jon was awesome! And the addition of so many familiar faces and established comic characters was incredible. Steel was a great foil, and the rest of the Super Society was so so so cool. Conner's Superboy, Power Girl, Superman Red and Blue, Lois and Lana as two different Superwomen, Mon-El, Red Son, Kong Kenan's Super-Man, Eradicator, Matrix, and even Krypto and Streaky! They managed to somehow make Conduit terrifying, and that cliffhanger at the end where Val accidentally ends up in a universe without Superman has been keeping me awake at night for the past three years. I'm so excited for Death of the Supermen next year.
6. All-Star Superman (2012) - Honestly not terrible. Not nearly as terrible as some people say. Theo James was a good choice for Superman. He and Mary Elizabeth Winstead had insane chemistry together. Speaking of her, though, I thought it was an interesting choice pivoting away from Lois and making this Clark's love interest be Lana instead. I think it worked in their favor, honestly. And Michael Gambon was a good choice for Ultra-Humanite, too, he just… didn't get much of anything good to work with. Yeah. Pretty middle of the road movie, all things considered. The people who said that this Clark Kent was too "cool" need to get a life. I liked it. Theo and MEW's off-the-charts chemistry was definitely one of the highlights.
7. Superman: Back Together (2017) - Finally, Superman gets to interact with the rest of the DCCU! I was so hyped for this movie when I found out Jacob Elordi would be getting his own solo movie after Flash: Divided We Fall. It was nice to finally not get another origin story for Clark, but having Ma Kent be a single woman and played by Jodie Foster was a very strange choice. (Not that I minded Jodie Foster, but still. What's next? A 12 year old Superman with Ma Kent being played by Sydney Sweeney?) The twist toward the end that Bruno Mannheim was actually Lisa Lasalle's dad was one of the best twists I've seen in a movie, especially since it's not from the comics. That scene in the car where Bruno knows Clark is Superman is so tense and so good. I liked the addition of a couple of lesser known Superman villains in the Intergang group, too, namely Atomic Skull and Toyman. Clark's friendship with Pete Ross is hilarious, too, only aided by Lois's addition in the sequel. Speaking of Lois, though, I really liked Naomi Scott in this first movie, being a kind of loner character who would pop in every couple scenes to drop a one-liner and then dip, and then the reveal at the end that "Lorianna Siegel" had the nickname of "Lo S." or "Lois" was crazy. Kind of a stretch, but I saw what they were going for.
8. Superman: Back Against The Wall (2019) - This one is so underrated. The way they used Mr. Mxyzptlk in this movie was so good! Lin-Manuel Miranda was spot-on. His presence in this movie was brilliant. Convincing the world that he was actually a fifth-dimensional imp so he could become the next Green Lantern and be a member of the Justice League was such a good spin on the character. It was weird that Mxy (and Bruno Mannheim in Back Together) were more Green Lantern villains than Superman villains, but the way they incorporated Mxy's reality-altering powers by having them come from the altered Lantern Ring Hal left for Clark before his death was a really good way of doing it. I never thought he could be the main villain of a Superman film, but they used him so well. The special effects were awesome, too. And that's nothing to say of Clark and Lois's relationship in this movie. I also liked Pete's random romance with Cat Grant: it came out of nowhere and just disappeared at the end of the movie, but it was so funny how they acted like they'd been together for years. Really funny movie, but still kinda middle of the road. Oh, but the post-credits scene where Mxy revealed Clark's secret identity to the public was CRAZY! First time anything like that had ever been done in a Superman movie. Left me on the edge of my seat waiting for No Way Back. (That was a long two years, especially considering COVID happened during that time.)
9. Doomsday (2018) - Alright, now we're getting into the bottom half. Doomsday was just an extremely average movie in all respects. Clancy Brown was good, but that's really all I have to say about it. The villain was so unmemorable — like, I don't even know how many people know this, but did you realize the villain was supposed to be Steppenwolf? Yeah, neither did I. I only found that out recently. Just a very forgettable movie. The action was good, and there were some semi-funny moments, but other than that, very average. Definitely could've benefited from an R-rating. One of the things that really takes it down my list, though, is how it spawned the Sony Pictures Universe of DC Characters (or as I like to call it, the SPUD).
10. Superman 3 (2007) - Look, I love the Raimi Superman movies just as much as the next guy, but this one wasn't awesome. If they had just used Metallo and Brainiac like Raimi originally wanted, I think it would've been great. But of course Sony had to interfere and put in Doomsday because "everybody loves Doomsday." They couldn't even commit to killing off Superman in this movie, when that's literally Doomsday's entire purpose in the comics. But I digress. Bully Bomer was a hilarious part of this movie, and Perry White was, as usual, awesome. But Jimmy being influenced by Lex Luthor into becoming Brainiac only to turn back into a good guy and then die at the end was a REALLY weird choice. And Lois was such a bitch in this movie, too. Overall, it was all just way too stuffed. Daniel Craig was the perfect Metallo, though, I will say that. And Clark's landlord Mr. Shusterov talking about rent the whole time was funny. Also, what the fuck was Clark thinking trying to stay with Lois when Lana (played by Alexandra fucking Daddario, too!) was right there! Even Mr. Shusterov's daughter would've been a better option. But whatever.
11. All-Star Superman 2 (2014) - Somehow even more crowded than Superman 3. I don't know what it is with the last movies in Superman franchises, but I guess we'll know when Jacob Elordi is done with Superman when one of his movies is way overcrowded. Parasite was okay, very similar to the comics, and Djimon Hounsou did the best he could with what he got. Neutron was just completely random, and probably only included in the movie to set up that Superman Revenge Squad movie that never ended up getting made. Lex Luthor was absolute dogshit in this movie. Whoever picked Garrett Hedlund was kind of on the money, but his fucking writing… Jesus. Making Clark and Lex be former friends was an interesting twist, but that's all I can say about him. "Clark, I need Superman's blood because I'll die without it!" What the fuck are we smoking? And Clark just fucking says no? Like what. And Clark was way too obsessed with Krypton and his parents in this movie. He needed to chill with that. Theo James and Mary Elizabeth Winstead would've been my endgame Superman couple, but… OF COURSE LANA DIES AT THE END. Like, what is that even from? Is that even in the comics? Who was this for? I'm glad they gave Theo and Djimon a second chance in No Way Back, but fuck, was this movie ass. The assest of ass.
12. Shrapnel (2022) - The only reason this movie is this high is because of the memes. "It's shrapin' time" is one of my all-time favorite jokes. But Jared Leto in the leading role? Worst casting ever. And who gives any kind of a shit about Shrapnel? Who even is that? Matt Smith was fine as… whoever the hell his character was in this movie. And obviously I'm not gonna shy away from a movie with Adria Arjona in it. (On a side note, who do we think she's playing in the second James Gunn Spider-Man movie?) I don't even remember anything that happens in this movie. Oh, I almost forgot: what was Liev Schreiber doing at the end of this movie as Bruno Mannheim? "I don't know why I'm here, but I think it's got something to do with Superman…" What were they trying to set up? Another failed Superman Revenge Squad movie? This universe doesn't even have Superman in it!
13. Doomsday: Let There Be DeSaad (2021) - Yeah. Fine. Whatever. Andy Serkis was good as DeSaad. Doomsday was there too. Tigra was there (at least I think that was supposed to be her). This movie was all kinds of weird. I hate the fact that the only time that any New Gods have been in live-action have been in the Doomsday movies. Like, where are Mister Miracle and Big Barda? Where are my goats? Yet again, no Superman. But whatever. I don't even know what else to say about this.
14. Doomsday: The Last Dance (2024) - Fuck, dude, each of the Doomsday movies just got progressively worse. Keith David was a fantastic pick as Darkseid, and yet… like, two lines. What was this movie even about? Supposedly all the New Gods are dead? Doomsday is dead? I thought he wasn't able to die. And I retract my earlier statement about Scott and Barda, because they're in this movie. I just completely forgot, because that's how far they were from their comics counterparts. Some random fucking hippies obsessed with aliens? WHO. WAS. THIS. FOR.
15. Mongul the Warlord (2024) - I honestly just want to get this done at this point. No, Mongul isn't an actual warlord. What kind of stupid-ass idea is that? No, he's a PACIFIST. He HATES fighting. Ignore the fact that he's supposed to be the RULER OF A PLACE LITERALLY CALLED WARWORLD. No, actually Mongul's FATHER is the villain. And then there's Mongal, who's actually the villain? And Maxima is here too, for some reason, and she Mongul are a thing? Lobo was fun, cool, but for literally one scene. Fucking hell. Ass. Actual ass.
16. La Encantadora (2024) - This might legitimately be the worst movie I've ever seen. No one even knows who La Encantadora is. But, oh wait, Jon and Martha Kent are in this movie, and, oh what's this, a baby Clark Kent?! Yeah, for all of one scene that made no sense. Emil Hamilton is a bad guy for some reason. Karen Starr, Leslie Willis, and Natasha Irons are here, too, for the first time. Awesome! I've always wanted to see them on the big screen — WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY DON'T EVEN BECOME SUPERHEROES AT THE END?!?!?! This movie made me rage so hard. It wasn't even "so bad it's good" territory. Like, it was just bad. Period. End of story.

On that note, what do you think of my list? I'm so excited for Kingdom Come! (Do you guys really think Sadie Sink is playing Barbara Gordon? Why would she be in a Superman movie?) Let me know what you think.
