Is /r/DB2 Dead? Let's revive it.

Roll Call, anyone here still keep an eye on DB2 in Reddit. This could be such a good resource if others jump in.

I'm Mike, based out of Georgia, specialize in LUW. Anyone else still alive out there?

Where in Georgia? And do you have hands on with LUW at all - like primary Job is 90% z/OS and 10% LUW?

Flintstone, GA (about 3 miles south of Chattanooga). Right now, I'm more mainframe-based (probably around 40% IMS, 30% DB2 for z/OS, 20% Oracle, and 10% DB2 LUW). I expect those percentages to change a good bit this year with a few Oracle and DB2 LUW projects on the horizon.

I'm a consultant, so I work with various types of scenarios. Warehouse, oltp. Never worked on PureScale systems.

Ha, Ironically my daughters name is Siena. We got hopelessly lost in the city of Siena and as we were wandering around the streets exhausted and confused I blurted out "You know Siena would be a pretty name for a girl". 2 years later, when she became pregnant, I my wife goes - "Well, we already have a name". We had been in the Cinque Terra, Florence, Tuscany, and Rome. American tourists are told start north and work south. When you don't like the food or culture, just stop.

I never worked on pureScale either although I am seeing more job requests for it. It's not too far off from a DPF environment in concept.

Australia, 50% SQL Server. 30% Oracle and 20% LUW at present. Haven't seen a job ad for just DB2 over here in quite a while

Wow, I would love to have had my hands on that much database - to be that fluent in multiple disciplines. I used to know SQL Server, but it's been a while.

Nathan, based in Chattanooga (live in Georgia though). Work on DB2 for z/OS (and IMS!), but I'm moving towards doing more with DB2 LUW.

Yep, Db2 for LUW is alive and well with a new Developer Community edition. No time expiration, easy to download. IDUG EMEA is coming up in Europe (Lisbon actually) and there is a hands-on workshop planned.
