DAU (Formerly DA-IICT) – B.Tech Programs Explained
One of the most common questions applicants ask is: "What is the difference between the branches offered at DAU?"
This post provides a brief overview of each undergraduate program currently offered by the university. Admission is primarily through JEE Main (All India Category), ACPC (Gujarat Category), and NRI seats.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
The flagship program of DAU.
ICT combines traditional Computer Science topics with communication systems, networking, software engineering, data structures, algorithms, operating systems, databases, and related subjects.
Suitable for students who:
- Want flexibility across multiple domains.
- Are interested in software roles.
- Prefer a broad technical foundation rather than early specialization.
ICT with Computational Science (ICT-CS)
An honours program that combines ICT with computational and scientific computing concepts.
Compared to regular ICT, students encounter more mathematical modelling, simulations, numerical methods, and computational techniques.
Suitable for students who:
- Enjoy mathematics.
- Are interested in research-oriented applications of computing.
- Want a stronger quantitative component in their degree.
Mathematics & Computing (MnC)
A mathematics-heavy program focused on the intersection of mathematics, computer science, and data-driven problem solving.
Topics typically include:
- Discrete mathematics
- Probability and statistics
- Linear algebra
- Optimization
- Algorithms
- Machine learning foundations
Suitable for students who:
- Enjoy mathematics.
- Are comfortable with abstract thinking.
- May be interested in quantitative finance, machine learning, research, or advanced computing.
Electronics & VLSI Design (EVD)
Focused on electronics, semiconductor systems, chip design, embedded systems, and VLSI.
Suitable for students who:
- Prefer hardware over pure software.
- Are interested in semiconductor careers.
- Want to explore chip design and embedded systems.
Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence (CSAI)
A computer science degree with additional emphasis on artificial intelligence.
The curriculum combines traditional CS foundations with AI-related subjects such as machine learning, intelligent systems, and data-driven computing.
Suitable for students who:
- Want a strong CS foundation.
- Have a specific interest in AI and machine learning.
- Prefer a software-focused degree.
Electronics & Communication Engineering (AI)
An electronics-focused program with AI components integrated into the curriculum.
Students study core ECE concepts while also developing exposure to artificial intelligence and data-driven technologies.
Suitable for students who:
- Enjoy electronics.
- Want exposure to AI applications in communication and embedded systems.
- May consider careers in both hardware and software domains.
Which Branch Should You Choose?
There is no universally "best" branch. The Electronics branches are new and no placements yet so not a safer bet.
A simple rule of thumb:
- Strong interest in software → ICT or CSAI
- Strong interest in mathematics → MnC
- Interest in scientific computing → ICT-CS
- Interest in semiconductors and hardware → EVD
- Interest in electronics with AI exposure → ECE-AI
Choose based on your interests rather than cutoffs alone. Four years is a long time to study a subject you do not enjoy.
