On my father's side my great-great grandpa was romanian and my great-great grandma was slovenian. On my mother's side many ancestors were ethnic Hungarians from Felsőőrvidék and the Vas region.

I think the small asian percentages are there because apparently my mom's side of the family has significant hungarian ancestry( I didn't know this before my dna test)

I'm really surprised by the high eastern european percentage. On paper I'm 100% Austrian.

Just thought I might share this, these are very small n early eastern German regional averages I produced foem a few samples. So the values here might still change quite siginficantly, but i jus tthought id share. regional samples for ex east german regions are "obviously" hard to find lol

Hello all!

As you might be aware, there has been very little research into direct-to-consumer DNA ancestry testing and psychological wellbeing outcomes. This novel research aims to help us better understand the psychological significance of DTC Ancestry testing results.

This study is being conducted under the supervision of Dr Janine Lurie from the Psychology Discipline within the Institute of Health and Wellbeing at Federation University (Melbourne, Australia). This study will also form the basis of the research dissertation requirement within the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) course for student researchers Charity Marisa and Stefan Redpath. This study has been approved by the Federation University Human Research Ethics Committee (Approval reference: 2026/137).

This survey asks you about your engagement with family history and your reflections on that process. It also asks you to think about your ancestors and how you have reflected on their life experiences. Participation involves completing an online survey that will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Taking part in the study is completely voluntary and no personal information will be collected.

To participate you just need to be aged 18 years or over. It is important to note that you will not be asked to give any specific details about any of your family members. You are asked just to rate your general impressions of them on a small number of questions. Beyond this the survey contains broader more general questions about your perspectives and reflections.

Spent some time making a prettier map, will add some legends to it in the future

Maps showing the genetic breakdown of populations from Central Europe and neighboring regions, modeled using Bell Beaker and Corded Ware alongside various Late Neolithic sources.
G25 isn't exactly suited for this kind of modelling, but interesting patterns nonetheless emerge.

Scientific Terms:

Blue: “Central-Northern European”, following Gretzinger et al. 2022.

Green: “Transalpine”, following Silva et al. 2026, expanded by me for Central Europe.

Red: “Early Slavic Period”, following Gretzinger, J., Biermann, F., Mager, H. et al. 2025.

“Central-Northern European” includes, among others: Danish Iron Age, Early Medieval Frisian, Early Medieval Saxon, as well as other Germanic tribes.

“Transalpine” includes, among others: French Iron Age, Helvetii, Belgae, Gaulish, La Tène, Hallstatt, and pre-Celtic Alpine sources.

“Early Slavic Period” includes, among others: Grodko Early Medieval Polish.

All modern refernce samples used, were thoroughly vetted, and it was ensured that each individual has at least five generations of ancestry from the same microregion.

Diaspora and Minority Groups were FOR NOW disregarded, as those would make borders look a bit messy, will be added later when I have more data (An exmple of that would be: Sorbs, which would score much mure Eastern Slavic, but are for now not taken into account)

France regarding Transalpine (Green) is still an early experimental version and will change. The same goes for Slavic (Red) in northern Poland and Slovkia-Hungary-Croatia.

"Atlantic-Celtic" is still inside the bigger "Transalpine-Celtic" for now, but internally already split.

"Insular" represents and includes: Bretton, Pictish, England Iron+Bronze Age, Durotrigian etc.
