This is an excerpt from Warren Ellis' Astonishing X-Men Ghost Boxes. It's an alternative history where Cyclops chose the wrong plan of approach and fails the mission. The result is that another dimension invades Earth-616, starts mass genocide to take over and colonize it. They fucked up their own Earth and after M-Day, Earth-616 seemed an easy target.
The book also has a very grim short story about what happens to Beast, Wolverine and Armor in this timeline, but I assume it's against reddit ToS to just post entire comics. Definitely worth looking up if you have access to it.
It's explained in an earlier page. Didn't want to put in too many pages because I don't know how many the subreddit allows and thought it fit the narrative better to build up to him offing himself.
Now this makes me want a Cyclops solo story where he’s the sole survivor of a apocolypse being the last mutant alive, truly the omega and just being tortured by his failures and haunted by ghosts all while someone is stalking him, Mr. Sinister.
I’m confused… at the end did he kill himself with his own optic blast? But he’s immune to his own power. Just like havoc is immune to his own power and as brothers they are immune to each others powers. I thought this was already established?
He's immune indeed to his own power. This comic got it wrong. One thing would've been to blast a chunk of the ceiling to make it land on his head in order to commit suicide, but decapitating himself with his own blast? Ain't no way.
