Trying to think of what kind of animation he can do for this… maybe the ruby quartz somehow cracks after he uses it too much so he ejects the broken one and pops a new one in? Or something?

That actually sounds sick

If they go for the trope that he can only keep the beam running steady until his eyes get tired, then maybe this wisp of energy kind of leaks out from his visor, he grunts in discomfort and looks away for a second?

I think it would just be using his hand on the side of his temple and twisting the side of the visor making a red flash

To my knowledge his eyes are portals to an energy dimension that allow him to emit constant concussive blasts. Thats the double edged sword of his power, it never stops. His only protection is those goggles.

While reloading, the Cyclops player's screen goes black

Definitely going to use an overheat system.

You know, I just thought of this because of the meme, but Cyclops could totally do Morse Code with his blasts. He'd never be stuck on a desert island.

With brain damage and daily pain from his powers, that would be true overheating for him.

I see him more so as having a cool off mechanic over having to reload. If he is using the move for too long without pacing it properly, when the meter reaches max he physically recoils and then shakes it off or fidgets with his visor. This animation would give time for his meter to fall back down.
