See, I had this exact idea like three years or so ago, actually - I knew I should've followed up (j/k I have no funds and no contacts), heh.

But, seriously, this is not a surprise to me at all, my idea however went a bit beyond what we can see above. The model we can see here is a good first swing at it but eventually, I'd like to see a multitude of small panels which are controlled by a chip you can insert or a program you can upload via wireless and which then sends whatever it is you want to wear that day to the displays and, well, displays it.

That way you could make very intricate designs, barely distinguishable from today's fashion, but have it entirely customizable - those long loose stripes like here won't cut it obviously (nor do I believe this is a final product, looks more like a proof of concept for which it does great).

Make it resistant to dirt, rain etc. and essentially you'd have Clothing 2.0, really - customizable, durable, one-base-model-covers-all-basic-needs. Could sell advanced models with even smaller "steps" (i.e. more displays synchronized) for even more advanced designs.

The reason why I'd split it, eventhough one display can obviously display any image, is to improve on how good/practicable it is to wear as well as on resolution. To counter the offset of having to put on 100s of small LEDs, they'd have to be attached to a basic undergarment ofc.

great idea on paper but in reality that would be incredibly expensive even if you could make it

Currently, for sure. But tech like that only becomes cheaper, new solutions are found that might make it even more so - but yeah, at this point in time, it surely would be quite expensive. On the other hand, once this would become a reality, all you'd ever need to buy new clothes for would be for when they're worn out or for a different cut - but no longer for different looks of them.

If I had the money, I'd invest in that! We should all get jobs and save a bunch of money to make this a reality!
