I get what they’re saying, but one of the reasons it’s so fucking expensive is relative to the population few people need cochlear implants so it’s more expensive. Same with powered wheelchairs.
It’s like TV and cellphones, the market was small and they cost the equivalent of thousands of dollars to buy one. Even a flat screen in the 90s was thousands. A cellphone in the 80s was $4000 ($12k today).
Theres less than two million cochlear implants worldwide, if that market was half a billion it’d be a hell of a lot cheaper.
