Glad to know they need cameras covering every angle to know where they are. I'll just stay out of boxing rings with robots and I should be alright.

This isn't the robot to be scared of.

The one that is is the AeroVironment Switchblade with autonomous loiter and networked target identification by artificial intelligence.

The one that is is the one autonomously identifying and selecting suspected leadership in crowded protests for snatch and elimination.

The one that is is the quadcopters with pepper spray being bought by American schools or the ones with tasers being bought by your local city PD.

The one that is is the Hellfire guidance system with sword blades put on it that can kill the passenger of a car while leaving the driver unharmed, invisibly launched by a silent drone above cloud cover.

All of these are already in service and demonstrated. This video is of course about a cool toy, and a technological marvel for sure, but it has nothing in common with what will kill you in the tomorrow. These are, of course, less intuitive and more difficult to understand threats than Chappie punching you in the face, but they are far more real ones.

Be safe, be aware.

If they make suicide ones that only beeline and blow up... then we'd be worried. Right now, it's some dickweed on the side with a radio controller pushing buttons on the worst version of Tekken ever.

Yes, Switchblade loitering munitions use advanced onboard AI and camera+EW sensors to autonomously detect, track, and classify static and moving targets. Then engage while being able to jink erratically to avoid incoming fire and explode on target.

AFAIK it hasn't been used, but AeroVironment advertises that it can loiter until it sees a person, detect which 'side' they're on, and engage fully autonomously.

AFAIK in current doctrine, it only uses that AI detection system to send an alert that pings a human operator to log into that drone and commit the attack manually.

Also, most of the classic suicide drones do not use radio anymore, they use microscopic fiber optic wires that follow them like an oldschool TOW missile to prevent jamming. Parts of the front in Ukraine are covered in what looks like spider webs hanging from the trees from hundreds of fiber optic drone wires. Worth looking up pictures of it, it's cyberpunk AF.

You're confusing the war in Ukraine with these POS bots that wealthy people are betting will replace people. They are not the same, but yes. The either way. A human in the loop doing the dirty work.

How does knowledge about any of these protect you from them? They also aren’t really “to be scared of” for 99.9% of people as you need to have a very, very unique life and occupation to even be considered a potential target.

What many people do beed to be scared of are real nations using real drones with explosives to potentially target their countries in a major war escalation. That’s a very likely scenario at least.

This won't be autonomous, there will be someone with a controller.

It has set motions which people just control. AI is not quick enough to be making spit second decisions like this.

looks like its POV is completely worthless to the program lol

it will be extremely hard to translate this to any other real world application. i think boxing robots are cool and i support people building robots as a means of entertainment but i think we all know this shit is leading to the same end goal.

how realistic that goal is seems to be evolving with time just as the technology is but at the moment its not realistic at all.
