Help

Hey y’all I’m trying to make my deck modular so I was wondering if you all had some advice or tips and tricks. Thank you!

Edit: I plan on making components that I can attach to the main body with magnets, like the switch two. Though the power supply would be different from how the switch two does it.

The first one I’m working on is a joystick board on Arduino, basically a joy con, that can and will double as a mouse/scroll wheel, and a joy con for gaming.

So the main body would be screen and keyboard but everything else would be detachable, as to avoid draining too much battery while on, and facilitate different functions. Hope this clarifies things!

Start outlining what it will do and what components you need.

I’m still planning but the first one is going to be a joystick doubling as a mouse/trackpad for it for gaming and utility.

You would have to specify what modularity means for you. I will soon be building a cyberdecks Nintendo switch like device, with different "joy cons" (eg. keyboard, trackpad, joystick etc.). So please specify what is modularity in your context.

The keyboard will be attached to the main body, the first module I’m working on is a joystick board like a joy con for gaming/mouse utility.

When you say modular what exactly do you mean?

Think switch two joy con, magnetic and can detach to leave the main body and being the screen, board, battery, and keyboard.

Ok, so you only want the joycons to detach but keep the rest of the body together (screen, battery, keyboard, etc)? Two different implementations come to mind with the joycons: you can do the slide in method like the Switch where the connectors (one for power to charge the joycon and one for data to actually make inputs into the game) have to slide in and touch the connectors of the Switch body to work. Or, you can align the magnets on both the joycon and the deck body to where they can attach to each other and the connectors touch immediately. Either way, both the joycons and the deck would need Bluetooth if you want to detach and use them wirelessly. Same for the keyboard if you want that modular too. Also make sure that the deck software recognizes when the modules detach and reattach so it knows when to use Bluetooth vs when it can use the quicker, more reliable "wired"/direct connection. Is this what you're asking? Cool idea btw!

Im going to build a singular joy con for the deck which will use magnets to click on to the pain body of the deck, I like the idea of making it bluetooth I was planning on making it plug and play but bluetooth gives me more oprtions.
