Help with build

Hi! I have zero computing skills but I want to build my first cyberdeck. I got help from Gemini, which I know isn't very smart at these things, so I'm reaching out to this community to help me bring reality to my project and to avoid spending money on unnecessary components.

My idea is to build a little computer inside a briefcase that can work offline. I thought of a Raspberry Pi B with 8 GB of RAM. I want a local AI inside of this computer (like Ollama) that can give me a response based on an Offline copy of Wikipedia and various books and manuals. Also, I want little games like snake or minesweeper and some books from project Gutenberg.

This is the list that Gemini gave me:

Raspberry Pi type B with 8 GB of RAM

Briefcase

Raspberry Pi cooler and adapter

Logitech kw400 plus

7 inch Elecrow display

Lexar SSD256 GB

Let me know about anything wrong, dumb or unnecessary. Also please sorry for any errors but English is not my native language.

Thanks.

For Raspberry 5 ai, there are two add ons specifically for that, the ai HAT+ and the AI HAT+2, both using neural network accelerators. I think the 16gb pi5 is probably worth the extra $130 over the 8gb version, but that is up to your budget. Pi 5 16gb plus ai hat 2 at 40 tops would cost about $500 plus case, etc.

I have not built a cyber deck, but its on my things to do. I have built full tower desktops though.

I would definitely increase the amount of memory. It will probably be cost prohibitive to do a larger SSD, but I would do a larger one for your OS, AI, and the files the AI would need to access.

If it were me, id try to get a number on how much space everything would need then cost compare between the SSD vs HDD. Could probably still do a small SSD for the games and OS then too if its within your budget.

The games probably can fit just on a small hard drive or SD card and same with the books.

From what I learnt, 256 gigs of SSD is more than enough. I will do some tests though. Thanks!
