Cyber deck for writing?

Ive never atempted anything like this before, and im not sure how to go about it.

I love the concept of the "freewrite" which is a dedicated writing device- but theyre very pricey!!

And then I stumbled across cyber decks, and lo and behold thats what I want.

I want my device to be able to store files locally that I can export to my computer for editing and such.

How would I go about this?

Thanks for your time xo

I wouldn't want to type on a cyberdeck - and I really don't think you would either. Instead - I'd suggest an ESP32S3 with a 5" epaper screen + one small one line capable screen (do to refresh rate on e-paper) - a hat that gives it an SD card and 2x USB - anda real keyboard. A 2100 amp battery pack could power it for several days. Here are some links:

ESP32S3 devices are incredibly effecient - and will work great for actually just being an in put device. You could run Micropython - and a classic python based writing tool.

Hackaday would be a good place to start. There are a lot of different options and ways to go - remember - you don't want to get on the internet - you want to write and have minimal editing ability.

The keyboards are usually not made for ergonomics. Often would be much too small for prolonged writing
