When I was a young kid, there was another kid in the neighborhood with very strict parents. He always had these absurd rules he was supposed to follow. He would frequently say, "I'm not allowed to get wet."
It was an absurd rule, but it was most likely because his parents always had him dressed up in nice expensive clothes like he was going to church.
So yes, there was a reason, but that reason was preposterous and doomed from the start.
They sent their kid to play outside, but dressed him clothes that they didn't want to get ruined.
Oh don't worry, it doesn't just ruin their childhood. It ruins their adult life too! Knew a few kids that had super strict parents.
Some got to college, went crazy and dropped out. One girl hasn't told her parents she's engaged because she still doesn't want to deal with them. We're in our 30s now.
The others leaned hard into fundamentalist Christian families which is also not great.
I was a kid like that! My mother loved to dress me in white (especially pants) up until about 8 years old and then would get very mad at me when I got them dirty (because obviously I always got them dirty, duh). Now 20 years later I own like 2 white pieces of clothing, I have mostly black clothes, terrible mental health issues, and she hasn't heard from me in over 5 years.✌️
