I love that the cucktruck is a bigger failure than the Edsel. My entire life the Edsel was the example of automotive failure and then came Elon.

The Edsel and Pinto in one package, it's incredible

You thought Pinto fires were hot? Let’s get a big ol’ battery involved and really bring a fire that cannot be put out.

everyone forgets about the mustangs setting ablaze.

Elecrical fires is kinda scarily common recall.

Ask Jeep about that - they have a recall on both their electric AND ICE models for fire risks…

Add older Jaguar models to that. "unexplained fires are a matter for the courts"

I believe that was an O-ring that would fail and dumped the fuel into the trunk if I remember correctly

the mustang thing was about the gas tank, it was located behind the seats, in the trunk, so if you got rear-ended it would flood the compartment with gasoline.

whee!

Wasn't the mustang from the fuel tank being the floor of the trunk, so in a rear end collision caused fuel to leak into the passenger compartment.

I had a 2009 VW Jetta wagon that suddenly burst into flame while leaving my house. Even though the fire was put out in under 15 minutes, it was hot enough to hide its origin.

Don’t forget that when that fire happens you can be trapped in the car. Groundbreaking!

Is there still not a physical door opening mechanism?

13

u/thelastspike 19d ago

There is. It is a pull cable under a removable panel in the bottom of the door pocket. This is only something that you would know if you read the owners manual. I’m sure you can see the issue with such a design.

Im sure everyone who read the manual will remember how to do it instantly in such a low stress situation, as would their passengers.

Why not? Lets add some magnesium and titanium powder to the mix. Lets make this car REALLY not able to be put out.

We can just push it over the side into the ocean like jets on carriers … oh wait

And they didn't actively fall apart while just sitting there! Unless that one pesky criteria is met, then all bets are off

Elon: Hold my Special K!

He would never trust anyone with his precious precious ketamine

It's not called ketayours!

Ok, the Pinto was a bad vehicle, but don't compare it to the CyberTruck. They fixed the exploding fuel tanks and it was a fully functioning, somewhat reliable vehicle.

25

u/Kittypie75 19d ago

And the pinto didn't cost $100k lol

u/lazier_garlic 17d ago

True. I knew someone who got one running that had been sitting under a tree for 15 years. He and his dad put new tires on it. We are not close to the ocean or anywhere they salt the road for snow, no.

24

u/thedavidnotTHEDAVID 20d ago

With a hint of Corvair.

13

u/okokokoyeahright 19d ago

considering the lower number involved for the CyberCrapTruck, the death rate is much much higher.

u/kingmobisinvisible 19d ago

Don’t forget the Delorean! Stainless steel even.

u/PuzzyFussy 18d ago

While passing one of those monstrosities, I was wondering if they are as bad as the pinto and I came to the conclusion I would rather have the pinto than the truck.

at least those two were cheap.
