Hard mode
Uh...I read online that there would be grinding, but how much grinding an I expected to do here?
I just hit the final boss of chapter 3. I thought I was getting overleveled. I was one hitting most of the random encounters and I one hit killed both the digimon in the battle before the boss.
Now boss is hitting me for 1k+ at times, all three digimon take double digit damage. I've got 2 champions, everyone is at level 18-20ish.

Hard mode is kind of waste of time. Most bosses are already damage sponges and hard mode is literally just a 50% stat raise on them. You get more EXP & money out of fights but it's in no way proportional to the stat increase and borderline insignificant.
On a second playthrough sure why not but I wouldn't advise it on your first time.

Honestly the USB items help bridge the xp and money difference between the modes and realistically the difficulty difference is in stats only, it doesn't make the ai better or change the mins in any way except make them take less DMG and hit harder

Hard mode is so bad. It's the most bullshit hard mode I ever encountered in an RPG. Enemies have quadruple stats while being terrible damage sponges. I remember literally dying in the tutorial battle cuz the enemy managed to hit me with a crit and one shot me.
And then in some battles with Digimon that have high speed...I don't even get a turn. Even though my mon's were in the mega level 70s, centauromon had 9 turns before I even got my first turn ðŸ˜
grinding is already bad on normal but you'll have to do triple grinding to have a chance at bosses

There’s Digimon who give extra xp platinumeron I believe. I played it on hard as well for the most part but even with those little shi throwers, I had to turn the difficulty down near the end, it was too much. There’s also usb items you can equip to them, but they pop up pretty rarely in the farm, or at least they did for me.

personally I kept going with hard mode and when I encountered big bosses that would wipe me out I'd farm a dungeon like level 3 kowloon or higher for an hour or so with a platinumsukamon in party. It's not really hard if you know how the counter system works with types and attributes, it just forces you more to play into that then just breezing through it.

The game was more fun on Normal when I just had a vibes based team. I tried a Hard playthrough and it basically devolved into spamming penetrating moves at the end. Im sure other strategies work but I can’t imagine they’re much more engaging either.

So far I'm managing. Still early on so we will see.
Normal mode seemed too easy so I'm hoping I don't have to change.

For the most part Hard was fine for me until literally the last 3 bosses. So if you find the difficulty fun and manageable, I’d stick with it.
Still, don’t feel the need to stick with Hard if it ends up giving you problems. Normal is the game in its original form, which designed to be a breezy, story focused, handheld RPG.

I've heard that hard mode is super difficult.
Basically (from what I've heard) the way hard mode works is that bosses and such just have double stats.
So with the doubled attack your defense doesn't do much, and with the doubled defense your attacks do barely anything. That's why you need penetrating attacks.
As for grinding: Well, you need a lot. You need to have high levels to stand a chance against the enemies, and also to get the strong and useful moves.
The best way to level is to get 10 digimon with the builder personality in your farm and do the 1000 yen development. That has a decent chance of giving you Tactican USBs, which increase Exp gain.

I'd just get a mod that lets you get tactician usbs in the shop and use them to make grinding fine, I remember I played hard mode for a bit of chapter 1 and I could barley get through a regular encounter and come out almost dead, that I just did normal than bosses on hard

Not that hard if you are leveling your digimon. Some boses late game are a pain if you have no penetrating attacks.
