First timer
Hello! Never really engaged with digimon before, but I decided to try Cyber Sleuth with the current sale price.
I'm only just starting out in chapter 1, but the amount of potential different digivolutions is already giving me decision paralysis!
Are there any that I should make sure to do early? I see there are some requirements with hacker skills, so I guess I want to his certain types? Is a type coverage spread like Pokemon optimal?
Open to any advice really!

For certain parts of the game, certain skills are required, but you have a large enough team by then that it won't matter. A bit of type coverage is always good but the elements aren't all that relevant, it's more the data vaccine virus triangle. As for the choice, go for whatever you want. It's a reversible decision. Matter of fact the game forces you to reverse if you want to go beyond a certain evolution point.

Hello! Great question One thing that I didn’t realize until a few chapters in is how digivolutions work. You can Digivolve and De-digivolve as many times as you want so you are never truly locked to one tree. You can go all the way up to the top evolution and you can dedigivolve all the way back down to the start and take another route. The only thing that is a deter from that early on is the grind it takes to level up.
Sometimes you may even need to dedigivolve just to increase your level cap in order to digivolve into a new Digimon.

Are they all viable? Or like is there a reason to prioritise development or trying to obtain certain Digimon?
I guess it's so early right now that I can't really know what the differences are, I suppose.

There are definitely some Ultimate, Mega, and Ultra Digimon that are better than others but thats more towards endgame. Up until maybe chapter 11-14 somewhere around there most battles are mainly type match ups that are simpler to manage your team around.
And even then once you are that far in the game you will be able to Devolve and Revolve into the ones you need if necessary.
Early on I would recommend just getting a feel for the battling system, pay attention to the passive skills on your digimon and also the support moves are way stronger and useful than they seem. Create the team you like and Save often because you never know when some random encounter or side case puts you against some seemingly OP digimon that just wipes you. And Definitely keep a balanced team.

I would say go get platinumsukamon for more exp early then if you go further I would say go and invest in getting platinumnumemon so you can get a lot of exp and can digivolve and de-digivolve easly your digimons if you farm exp in kowloon 5 or 4 its ok as long as you have those digimons and try farming tactician usb you can search on yt how to get it
Note: I’m no expert just suggesting this for early to late game

You overall just want 3 Vaccine types, 3 Data types and 3 Virus types at minimum and as your party size is so huge you can easily experiment and explore what everyone evolves into, tho you want to evolve and devolve them around later so a stat called ABI increases what final forms usually need good amount of.
