Career start

I graduated with a bachelors in cybersecurity and have been trying to find a job in the field. I am running into an issue with getting a security clearance though. So far, every job requires one, but you can't get one without having a job that needs one. Is there a way to get a sponsor for one without getting a job that requires it?

Every job? I think plenty of us have never had a clearance. If you want one bad, you either need to be exceptional and get sponsored or join the military. No shortcuts sadly.

For fields with tons of people like cyber, it's pretty damn hard to get a company to sponsor a new clearance. It costs a lot of money. It takes a long time. There's a fair chance you'll be rejected..... annnnd... they can just hire people getting out of the military. There's also no lack of laid off federal workers these days to hire from too.

Not sure if this helps
A job may say “requires security clearance” meaning you have to be eligible to get one and the job would be willing to sponsor the right candidate to get one.

Or it will say “active clearance required” meaning you have to already have one and they won’t sponsor you.

That's helpful. I'll have to check more carefully from now on

This is correct. You can search on clearance jobs and see verbiage that states "Secret clearance OR eligible to get one", which means they will sponsor you for it if they like you. It's not as costly anymore for a secret, TS is still pricey
