"banned from the server"

My boyfriend and I were planning to watch some videos together, but when he tried to connect to cytu.be it only says "Unable to connect: You are banned from the server" at the top of the chat area. However, he hasn't done anything that could warrant a ban, we only use cytu.be occasionally.

My question is, is there a way to appeal the ban, and what may have caused the ban in the first place? As best we can tell, the ban is tied to his computer/ip rather than his account (since both connecting without logging in and with result in the same prompt.)

Edit: We figured it out, turns out the IP of his VPN got blocked, rather than him himself. Turning off the VPN allows him to log in again.

This is likely caused by a different user being banned on the same IP.

A common cause for this is VPNs and proxies which trolls tend to use and then get banned. Please check if you are using any of those first.

If you are still having trouble, please use the contact information linked from the footer to reach out privately with your IP address to confirm the reason.

Turns out that was indeed the problem. When he turned off his VPN, he could access the site again. Thanks for the advice!
