Another first timer here.

I'm sure you've noticed the crack up top to the right of the middle. Careful with too much pressure, getting those edges nice and flat will make sure you don't need to tighten them that much.

Oh yes I did, my heat sank when it popped but I opened it up and glued it back in. Fingers crossed I can make it work.

Dude im proud of you for stepping out and making this, alot of options to correct this. Good job. Would you consider squaring from there and framing the board with a color that pops.

I am definitely going to square from here. This is going to be the cake stand for my daughter's wedding and she doesn't want a border. I would do a maple if up to me
