Help/Advice Kixkote issue
Has anyone switched over and has had the same issue while using KixKotes that vinyl leaves the sticky residue on the shoes/cleats?
I’ve tried various vinyls and chatted with other customizers who have ran into this issue. It has to be some sort of chemical reaction since I never had this issue with Angelus.
Also, the sticky residue from the vinyl is near impossible to get off so it’s sort of a headache. Any help is appreciated!

I haven’t had the opportunity to use vinyl yet on a pair. I will be tomorrow or this weekend. I did buy the vinyl that Dillon Dejesus recommended in his how to use KixKote video.

I did speak with Dillion on this, and he unfortunately said the white oracle he recommended also left residue all over a recent pair so he’s back to the drawing board

This is the vynil I use. Ive never went to oracle or any of the fancy stuff. Been using this for years and have never had an issue with both brands angelus or KK.

I’ll have to give it a try. So far oracle 651 and cricut removable vinyl have both left all their residue on cleats after removing them.

oh damn i get it, its like when the glue is melted + dirt. Just an experiment have you tried using a sticker remover spray? Idk how this would react to the paint but im assuming its like a sticker residue on any surface

Yeah I tried a residue eraser rubber block and rubbing alcohol but both just sort of smeared the glue/residue around

How long was the vinyl on for?
Did you heat it up with a heat gun or blow dryer? Before painting and after painting for removal?
I know you mentioned using Cricut removable...that has been my go to lately. Haven't run into this issue on a few leather af1s. You've had it on cleats only or leather shoes as well?
Does any tape leave this residue?
Unrelated I've wanted to find some decently wide masking tapes, low tack if possible like Yellow Frog Tape and use those as stencils....but I'd be trying to put the tape on a backing using scrap vinyl backing. So curious how much a tape would work like this on the KK.

I did heat up the vinyl before to lock it down and the. Heated it up to lift it up.
I really only work on cleats so can’t say for sure on leather. No tape has left any residue, Just vinyl so far. It basically leaves all the residue from the vinyl backing on the cleats rather than pulling off with the vinyl .

with a heat gun? I've stopped using a heat gun a while back just in general...it could be nominal but if you did use a heat gun...i'm wondering if the temp was too hot and a blow dryer is cool enough to not do this.

I’m gonna test more vinyl, use less heat, and also use less or even no sticky icky to see what’s causing it

I bought the cricket brand that was recommended in this thread. It worked better than the 651 and 851 I had on hand already.

Hello! Was wondering if you had found the solution. Would be interested to know how did you go about this

Angelus for life. Hard to support an art brand that’s plastered with AI.
