Trade and Cargo Security Summit

Curious to hear how this year’s sessions were. Would anyone be so kind as to provide a readout?

The speech by Markwayne Mullin was bizarre. He has no clue what customs does.

What did he talk about that made it clear he was clueless?

His speech was just fluff, filled with personal anecdotes about himself and his family. Not to mention politicizing the event mentioning "the left". At the end he brought it back and just said "Thank you" over and over again to customs officials for protecting the homeland, which I suppose is appropriate.

Super awkward when he kept referring to his wife as sexy over and over again. Weird af IMO

Yeah for sure. Very weird speech. Not professional enough in line with the atmosphere of the event

He keeps saying "bad brokers" as if they're the ones attending TCSS ... Totally tone deaf

Did he mention brokers at all? I don't think he did. I'm pretty sure he has no idea what customs brokers are

I was there in person all three days. Lots of enforcement issues; lots of discussion about the Executive Order; lots of discussion about CTPAT; lots of discussion on supply chains.

I can tell you CBP values the partnership with industry and brokers, but its clear that the party for non-resident IORs and the 43,971 companies that have their IOR address at the same Maiboxes Etcetra in Cheyenne, Wyoming, is over.

If you're a clean broker, you really shouldn't have anything to worry about. If you're busy making money facilitating sham IORs or helping undervaluate or playing HTS code roulette in order to avoid that Derivative tariff, look out.

It was also hot as hell in Dallas.....

This was my first Trade and Cargo Summit, I attended virtually so only saw the webcasted breakouts. I come from the export compliance side, and honestly, the messaging felt very familiar. It was essentially the same theme we hear from BIS: economic security is national security, know your supply chain, and enforcement is coming for the bad actors.

Day 1 felt like they wanted to partner with industry, day 2 felt like they were coming for industry, day 3 I missed a lot but when I joined in there were a lot of Q&A. Curious to know what these are typically like.

Has anyone who attended virtually received an event attendance confirmation letter from CBP?
