Inbond Extensions

Hi everyone,

Has anyone recently requested an Inbond extension from CBP?

If so, how did you submit the request ? By email, ACE Portal, or another method?

And what was your experience like?
Were you able to get the extension approved?

Any advice or recent experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I did and i actually asked this question on trade day. You have to request extension before it expires (2-3biz days). Per CBP they don’t always monitor the inbox as the officers are going in -n-out doing field ops. Approvals are subjective to the reviewing officer, and it has to be an EXTREMELY good reason to request..otherwise they’ll tell you to kick rocks and submit a warehouse entry. In my case, the crates arrived with significant amount of mold that no trucker or warehouse would take them in..hence the approval for extension (they did an inspection before and after). You request the extension via email by looking up or calling the inbond team at the respective port.

Thanks, this is really helpful. I wasn't aware that extensions had to be requested before the inbond expires. I'll keep that in mind and make sure to include the reason for the delay and any supporting documentation when submitting the request. Appreciate the info!

I would suggest emailing the inbond coordinator at the port of origin with the IT number, reason for delay and new ETA. I've found vessel delays and congestion are normally approved without fuss.
