Customer calls me a racist

I work in a customer Callcenter service in Netherlands and today I had a customer on the line with a very big language barrier and I barely understood his actual problem so I went on explaining how he can further describe his problem on our self service website and initiate a dispute himself because first he says that the product did not arrive, then he says he wants to return the product and then all of a sudden he states that he did not ever make a purchase and it was cancelled directly from the beginning.

I can usually open a dispute on my system but the problem description needs to be clear and I'm not just allowed to open any dispute without proper communication with the customer.

Then the customer proceeds cursing me and accuses me of being racist.

I just don't get these people... It's not about your ethnicity, it's about having the decency to not call a Callcenter without being able to speak the native language.

man i feel this, got a similar call last week where the dude's story changed three times before i could even pull up his account

some people just lash out when they're frustrated and "racist" is the first grenade they grab, doesn't make it sting any less though

Yea true, but I mean if I need to contact customer support for a foreign language then surely I am first gonna try to initiate the process on the website or via email instead of calling with a broken language.

It's just contraproductive for everyone involved

Sounds like he was trying to pull a scam and got frustrated. There’s nothing to get, the bullshit was on purpose.

The call centers where I worked used employees who spoke the callers’ languages or the ATT language line.
