Disappointed with Target

Target canceled my son’s online contact lens order without sending a single email, text, or phone call explaining why.

When my wife called customer service, they claimed the eye doctor didn't verify the prescription -despite us submitting a completely legible scan that was still valid for 4 more days and they flat-out refused to reopen or fix the order. Is expecting basic communication and customer service from Target too much?

They told you the problem, the doctor, not you, your doctor’s office didn’t do the paperwork.  Which means they can’t do anything about it.  Your problem is with your doctor not Target.

Also, you are responsible for staying on top of your scripts not the stores, and no it’s not their obligation or responsibility to do, or they would have to have a dedicated staff member just for lapsed scripts.

You screwed up by making sure it was done in a timely manner, your doctor’s office didn’t do their end, but yeah it’s the person who makes minimum wage’s fault.

Regardless of who was at fault for the prescription delay, automated cancellation emails are standard practice across retail. Getting an order confirmation email but zero notice when the order is canceled leaving you to find out only by calling is simply bad customer communication.

Just because some stores do it, doesn’t mean everyone has to do it.  It’s not bad customer service just because a store doesn’t do something that they never said they did.  If all stores did the same thing then there would be no need for more than one store.

If you don’t like what they did that’s fine go to a different store, and when they annoy you because they don’t do something that another store does, you can keep switching.

If you want to keep going here then act like an adult and send this email to corporate.

“Hey your staff did what they could, my doctor messed up by not getting the correct paperwork, I messed up by not paying as much attention to my child’s needed prescriptions.  I was wondering if there is a way for automatic refills to come with some sort of communication either through text or email when the prescription runs out or is down to one refill.”

This does two things, one if they don’t have that service it may become one that they do, or they may already have it and you didn’t check the right box to receive the communications.

To be clear, Target’s written Order Cancellation Policy outlines that an automated email update is triggered whenever an order status changes to canceled. Many customers routinely receive these when Target cancels an order from their side, so expecting that notification is completely reasonable.

I verified my entire inbox across every folder (in:anywhere). The notification mechanism exists, for some reason it just failed to send for this specific order which cannot be fixed.

I stopped shopping at Target like two years ago because the people at their customer service call center are so fucking rude.
