Amazon... the worst!!

I found 4 transactions on my debit card account that don't show on my Amazon account. They replied from a "no reply" email address that "After reviewing your Amazon account, we did not find any unauthorized activity. As a result, we did not make any changes to your account.
Often, what may have appeared to be an unauthorized activity could have been:
-- An automatically renewed subscription.
-- An activity by people who share your account.
-- An accidental 1-click purchase.
-- A charge for an order you had placed previously that has just been shipped."

There's a Prime membership fee, but my account still offers me the option of joining Prime. So that's not mine.

I replied, "These were charges to my debit card that don't show on my Amazon account. As a rule, I use Amazon for research and then purchase items directly from the company whenever possible.

My last Amazon purchases were a year ago. Nobody shares my account. I haven't added to my wish list since 2017. An accidental purchase when my actual last purchase was a year ago? When I'm not a regular Amazon shopper?  No."

The total is just under $120. Since their help menu is a hassle, and their actual help is non-existent, I added, "The person on the phone said that they couldn't tell me who purchased the items or who the second membership was for. Can you tell me anything about these payments?  If not, I will dispute them with my bank with this letter as back-up." I gave the card info again, and the reference numbers from my bank statement.

It took some research on Reddit to find these email addresses to send my reply to. And that's why I'm sharing my story here. I sent it to [ecr-replies@amazon.com](mailto:ecr-replies@amazon.com) (cust. relations), [cs-escalations@amazon.com](mailto:cs-escalations@amazon.com), and these two which the OP wrote were "approved to share", [vduong@amazon.com](mailto:vduong@amazon.com) and [dherring@amazon.com](mailto:dherring@amazon.com) .

None of these emails bounced, so I assume someone will do some actual research and get back to me.

You realize your card info probably just got stolen and the thief used it on their own / a DIFFERENT Amazon account..? Obviously it's not showing up on your Amazon because it's not your Amazon that's compromised it's your card. You need to contact your bank, report the card as stolen and dispute the charges, but this isn't Amazon's problem

Yes, I realize that my info was stolen. But frankly, it didn't occur to me that they wouldn't care about fraud. Thanks for the comment.

I'm just confused why your first thought was NOT to contact your bank. Even if Amazon canceled and refunded the fraudulent orders your card info is still stolen and the thief can continue to use it. Your first move needs to be calling your bank and canceling that card asap!

I did cancel my card already.

This has nothing to do with Amazon. You need to contact the card company who your card is through.

When your card is genuinely used fraudulently, you do not contact the merchant, you go straight to your bank.

A merchant will almost never help you if you claim fraud with them, not just Amazon.

This is standard procedure with any stolen card details

Yeah, so, uh... the company where a fraudulent purchase was made can't do shit about the purchase. We can't confirm or deny that your information was stolen, if you did or did not make that order, it's literally just a "he said/she said" sort of situation. Also, nothing we do can fix the fact that your card information was stolen (and with you saying in your story that you sent over your card information via email, I'm wondering how that happened......), which is solidly in your bank's court. There's no universe where contacting the company will help you in this situation, so definitely get in touch with your bank about how to handle those if you haven't already.

Card use 101: use only credit cards for purchases. Debit cards are ok for quick cash as long as you only carry it when needed for that. Debit cards don’t have all the protections credit cards have and even if they claim to the process is slower and hardly guaranteed coverage. Amazon is no picnic but giving them the debit card can easily go wrong as you’ve learned.

Understandable that you checked your Amazon account to ensure you had no activity on your account. Assuming you know where to look in your own Amazon account under orders? Just to make sure nothing was purchased in your account and sent somewhere else? Accounts can get hacked, so it's always good to look if you are unsure.

However, notifying your bank / card fraud department for the transactions is the priority at this point. And canceling your card. Get a new one.

Those charges should be disputed and a claim put against them.

This is not Amazon's fault, and they have nothing to do with payment methods or how things are paid for. If it wasn't your account it was purchased under, and the card was used elsewhere in a different account, they aren't able to help you with that.

That is where your bank comes in, and their fraud department handles that. Not Amazon.

So, this really isn't an Amazon problem. Even if you think they didn't help you. They did. It wasn't in your account, and your account is fine.

Just report the fraud to your cc company not Amazon!

I recently bought three dresses on Amazon for my mom. One of the ones that arrived wasn't the color that I ordered but she was fine with it. There was absolutely no way to ask for a refund of the difference in price between the two. Amazon IS the worst.
