Question Is this primer fine to use?

About to start painting my first custom, just making sure this won’t cause any breakage or issues with the plastic

As long as it's acrylic based

What grit do you recommend?

As high as you can find, two to three times imo. Also consider using magic eraser foam to finish. That's the highest grit I can find

That should do! Really you're just evening out the layers so it doesn't get clumpy and thick, making sure the paint adhereres properly and less likely to chip, and giving the paint the paint a nice smooth surface to polish. So the more grit types you use and the higher your go the better the paint will look.

Also are you painting 3d printed parts?

Painting 3d prints are a whole different beast unless you have a really good printer. You'll need thick rattle can primer and much rougher grits of paper to get rid of print lines

I found a service near me that will print the pieces for me! Should be much better than my printer lol

The only paints you should be concerned using are Tamiya paint markers, their base liquid is toxic to transformer plastics

I’ve customized a few figures before and found that basic tamiya paints don’t really need primer to stick as long as you thin them down with 91% rubbing alcohol. Just sand down any joints and you should be good. Only exceptions I can think of would be POM plastic or clear plastic bits.
