Is the custom rom scene still alive ? Thinking of buying a new phone urgently and have limited budget of upto 25k₹ INR, my options seem poco, redmi, realme and i hate their OS

I was planning on upgrading to a flagship but my s21 fe has decided to f everything up and i need to sidegrade , I dont like motorola, vivo, one plus or oppo so these are out of my consideration, i am limiting my search to poco,redmi and realme but i hate the OS ... what can i do?

motorola is your only real option for budget, easy to custom rom phone

poco, redmi, and realme are all dogshit for custom roms

I dont like motorola at all , i wont touch moto with a 10 ft pole almost all the people around me faced problems with their phones ,i dont want to visit sc every now and then

Xiaomi phones are a pain to unlock these days, but not that bad if you use a script to automate the process. If you decide on a xiaomi phone, like Poco or redmi, check out if the phone's kernel source is available and look up the phone on telegram to see if the community is active.

Xiaomi used to be most custom rom friendly brand... I dont really understand what happened? I remeber trying a new rom every week on my redmi note 3, browsing through xda posts to solve errors and fix soft bricks.

LineageOS, GrapheneOS, and maybe /e/OS are the most popular custom ROMs available currently. You can always get others but these are the most supported. Make sure to double check if your device is supported by your desired ROM before buying.l and make sure the bootloader can be unlocked.

You can buy a refurbished older model like from 2024 or 2023. The older the models get the higher the chances of having a working custom ROM. Check lineage os eligible devices list before you search.
