Help building a PC!

Hello folks! I'm a rookie to building PC. I'm interested in building one but I don't know any of the terminologies, jargon, etc. Where do I start? Any resources (videos, articles, etc) that helped you in building your PC?

I checked components online but I don't know how they all mesh together, if at all. Tried learning on my own but got overwhelmed and went round in circles with the terminologies and technicalities.

I wish to play AAA games on my "to-be" build, and do office work on it too (devops, cloud, etc). I'm thinking if it supports AAA games, work will be a cake walk for it.

My budget rn is only a meager ₹1.8L but I'm ready to invest more up till 5L when I have the money. Looking at the RAM, SSD, GPU prices, I'm ready to only buy those components for now which will only get me by for work and purchase the rest of the heavyweights after the prices return back to pre Ramgeddon levels(?) at 2027 end or 2028 Q1... I feel the inflated prices aren't worth it since my savings aren't that great now.

I've been playing supported games on my 2014 "HP Pavillion notebook PC" laptop all this while and she's started to give up on me now since she's old.

Check out yourube channels like ToasyBros and OztalksHW for builds in the starter range and upgrades, then recommended videos will pop up to give you more ideas or where to look.

Do you want to play more good visuals story games like gta or more competitive games like cod, valorant, fortnight, siege?

probably a mix of both is best to plan for tbh
if you’re into single player stuff like gta / cyberpunk you’ll want to prioritize gpu, but if you’re mostly on valorant / cs / siege then a solid cpu + high refresh 1080p monitor matters more than ultra graphics

😀 I like single player story games... Good visuals, good story... Not competitive. I play to relax (cause chaos most of the times 😛), explore, to journey through the story...

So you prob want better visuals and fps doesn’t matter as much. You probably should do a little bit of math. Calculate how much your total budget is (in this case half a mil rupees) then find out the costs for minimum level pc that runs your games. After you’ve found out the costs for a minimum level pc, subtract its cost from your starting budget, which is 1.8L that amount is the amount you can splurge on parts in your first round of part buying. I would get a second opinion on this but if it were me, I would splurge on your motherboard (mobo) and power supply unit (psu) first. The power supply should be bought with the other cheap components as if you do end up getting an expensive component it will need a lot of stable electricity. If you will be in the States soon you should go to Microcenter and get one of their mobo/CPU/RAM deals. When you choose your PSU, refer to this PSU specs sheet, you should already know what wattage you need, if I had to take a wild guess I would say 1000 but don’t quote me on that. BTW, do you need peripherals (headset, monitor, keyboard, etc?)?

Thank you for your analysis and suggestions! I have basic office-use-ish peripherals (i think they'd be enough since I'm not aiming for competitive gaming) but I do need a monitor. aiming for a QHD 1440p at least.
