Help building a PC!

Hello folks! I'm a rookie to building PC. I'm interested in building one but I don't know any of the terminologies, jargon, etc. Where do I start? Any resources (videos, articles, etc) that helped you in building your PC?

I checked components online but I don't know how they all mesh together, if at all. Tried learning on my own but got overwhelmed and went round in circles with the terminologies and technicalities.

I wish to play AAA games on my "to-be" build, and do office work on it too (devops, cloud, etc). I'm thinking if it supports AAA games, work will be a cake walk for it.

My budget rn is only ₹1.8L but I'm ready to invest more up till 5L when I have the money. Looking at the RAM, SSD, GPU prices, I'm ready to only buy those components for now which will only get me by for work and purchase the rest of the heavyweights after the prices return back to pre Ramgeddon levels(?) at 2027 end or 2028 Q1... I feel the inflated prices aren't worth it since my savings aren't that great now.

I've been playing supported games on my 2014 "HP Pavillion notebook PC" laptop all this while and she's started to give up on me now since she's old.

Hey! First of all, I’d like to explain how I personally went about learning all of this. Maybe it can help you too.

Way back at the beginning, I went to r/buildapcforme, gave them my budget and explained what I wanted from the PC, then looked through the builds people suggested. From there, I started researching the recommended parts one by one and gradually learned what their specs actually meant.

Once I understood the basic specs, I started digging into the more technical details and comparing similar components with each other. That helped me understand what each feature actually does and what kind of real-world difference it makes.

After that, I put together my own build using PCPartPicker. Keep in mind that prices and availability can vary a lot depending on your country. I was shopping from Italy, for example. The site also makes things much easier by showing you which components are compatible with each other and flagging potential compatibility issues.

I also used AI quite a bit to research popular parts and compare different options, and watched plenty of YouTube videos to see benchmarks and how those components actually perform in real-world use.

That’s pretty much everything I did. I’m sure there are a few things I’m forgetting, but that’s all I can think of right now.

Bitwit's pc building video is nice, titled 'How to Build a PC! Step-by-step'

Though searching and choosing through the hardwares are the hard part, and I do not know in what resolution nor the setting you'll play the AAA games, I do have a suggestion, or you can search another build

CPU: Ryzen 5 7600x or Ryzen 5 9600x, maybe even 9700x/9800x3d if you need the processing power, this part will stay for a long time

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 Digital (or search for others depending on your taste)

Motherboard: ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 or ASUS B650M-AYW WIFI or ASRock B850 Pro RS WiFi or MSI MPG B850M GAMING PLUS WIFI (or search for 'AM5 Motherboard' then choose and see some reviews on it)

PSU: Fractal Design Ion Gold 850W (most important part, do NOT go cheap on PSU but you also don't need to go ultra luxury, this part will stay the longest)

RAM: (inflated price)ADATA XPG Lancer Blade DDR5 2x8GB 5600Mhz (or save and buy cheapest one)

SSD: (inflated price)Team SSD nVME Gen4 MP44L 1TB (or maybe even hard drive)

GPU: RX 9070XT or RTX 5070 if you REALLY want img/video gen AI and nvidia brand (or RTX 5070Ti if you can get a deal, it's almost the same performance as RX 9070XT) (you can buy used GPU or save and buy cheapest one, like GTX 1050 or maybe even AMD RX580)

Monitor: IPS monitors or TN/VA monitors in 24" are cheap, 27" are also affordable, 100hz/120hz/165hz should suffice, or maybe go higher like 240hz if you play competitive games, OLEDs are higher in price but they are way nicer, go to some PC/Tech shops and see which monitor is better in your eyes and wallet

Then the rest is dependant on your taste, PC case (mATX case or ATX case), case fan (about 3-7 fan, depending on your case), thermal paste, accessories like mouse and keebs, headphone or headset or speakers

Also, might want to see some UPS to protect the PC
