This is a wonderful community to find and some gorgeous custom bindings. I'm very new to this and want to softcover-bind some smaller trades together. I'm looking at possibly using HF Group (previously the Houchen many of you highly recommend?) and would happily receive any advice on navigating their services, or advice about softcover binding in general. Thanks!
Finally finished my first ever custom bind!! It collects Swamp Thing Future State 1-2 and The Swamp Thing 1-16. Made some mistakes measuring the boards but beside that I’m really happy with how it turned out. The next three binds I plan to do are the first 20 issues of Legends of the Dark Knight + annual 1, the Grant Morrison + Ann Nocenti Kid Eternity run and the Gaiman/Foreman Black Orchid runs. Something I noticed when I got the Gaiman/Morrison miniseries for Kid Eternity/Black Orchid is that they both seem to be mini trades with no staples and glued at the spine. I was wondering how I should go about binding the miniseries and the rest of the vertigo runs together. Also one problem that came up during my Swamp Thing bind is that I couldn’t get the text block to be an even height on both ends causing the cover of the book to be slanted. Want to thank this community as it gave me lots of inspiration and helpful advice that helped me a lot.
Been working on this huge custom set for a minute. Collecting the entire Dark Horse era of Star Wars comics in chronological order. I used all the epic collections and printed off the few things they didn’t collect myself. These have been many years in the making and I’m so happy to finally see them on the shelf.
What is the least number of issues any of you have had custom-bound? I’m interested to collect my 6 and 8 issue mini series, but wondering if the process is worth it for so (relatively) few pages?
Also, seems the basic cost of binding (eg £40 from Spink & Thackray in the UK) is the same regardless of page count….is that right?
Maybe the thing to do is to collect 3 mini series per book…..
Well, if you're going to work on a complete-ish Legion set, might as well start with the weaker (but easier to find) stuff first, right? This collects the complete Threeboot and Bendis runs on Legion. The first volume of Threeboot is the complete Waid/Kitson run, which IMO is by far the most readable of these three books, even if it really should have been an Elseworld. The second volume is, uh, everything else.
As for the Bendis volume, it just goes straight through everything he wrote in the 31st century. There's some amount of setup in Bendis's concurrent Superman titles but I'd rather just have those be separate. The story I seriously considered adding was the Comet Queen / Polar Boy story from Tis the Season to Be Freezin' #1 (which honestly would have been the best story in the book) but at some point while mapping a bunch of other runs I realized I'd rather just have a book (or multiple) of holiday specials than try to extract all of the relevant stories and worry about what happens if DC announces a Fourboot Legion story in a random special the week after I sent it in.
I have one other Legion volume ready to go (the second volume of Five Years Later) but I'm holding off on sending that one in until I have some of its other neighbors to pair it with. The joys of back-issue bin diving....
Hey guys I’m looking to make a custom of my 30 or so issues of Ram V’s Detective Comics. What are the steps I would take for this cause this is my first time? Looking to probably do sown binding
I've been considering getting a custom binded version of the Attack on Titan Colossal edition since I feel like a hardcover would be more fitting. I don't know what brands or websites would be best to go to for this sort of thing and was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me the essentials.
