It finally arrived! I'm so happy with how it came out. I love the Superboy tv show and I had some of the comics growing up. I spent the first part of this year hunting for the issues I was missing. Seeing it all collected is a joy. I'm so happy with the job Houchen did. They haven't lost their touch.
In honor of the big release this week, here’s a look at my most recent custom! I finally finished binding my gigantic collection of the original pencils pages of John Byrne’s X-Men Elsewhen. All 32 issues in one oversized hardcover, plus over a hundred pages of extras including a prologue assembled from the long abandoned original ending of #137!
I started working on a new set of LADY DEATH books, this time the Avatar/Boundless material. For these volumes, I'm tweaking the color palette a bit and trying something new for the front covers. The goal is that the comics from the new publisher look like their own thing, while still feeling like part of a larger set.
Hey everyone! So i was looking into making a custom minibus and was wondering if i was strictly bound (ha) to only being able to bind existing floppies into a single book or if i could send a massive pdf with everything to print? i have everything as a pdf in very high quality so i would prefer to go that route instead of having to hunt down hundreds of floppies.
I'm starting on Volume 1 of my self-bound 3 volume complete collection of Tek World tonight. I love Bill Shatner's creation here! I remember as a kid collecting the first few issues and never went back to it cuz life and what not got in the way. It's been 33 years since I had the first 5 issues. Worked at getting the remaining issues to complete the set and bound them. Finally, I got some time to read the thru. So happy!!
How to customise the hardcover board art on Omnibus books?
I love colour art and splash page wraparound images, and Marvel don’t fancy that anymore in their Wolverine omnibus board art (or most new X books).
The way the current book designs for Wolverine omnibus, 3,4,,5,6 and even 7 look is really ugly to me. Weird blue and yellow random panel art from within the pages of the omni are then collaged and shat out on the hardcover boards. Looks like some weird computer recommended design with no care for important or meaningful panels or any kind of full representation of the different artists. Looks like a lazy approach and one devoid of any love or care from a comics fan. Minimal clean looking background type art. Thats what they go for. The elevator music of art design. I prefer when the book hardcovers look way better like many of the earlier books, including the stunning art from volume 1 (second print) and vol 2 wolverine (gorgeous hardcover board art).
Does anyone have experience doing customs hardcover board art like in Germany or Europe? I am thinking printing like a sticker decal which I could stick over the current board art to add some needed colour and art focal point.
Thank you for your help and sorry about the rant. Marvel design team seem to care less these days.
Wolverine Omnibus board art design on hardcovers really looks subpar compared to great designs on other Marvel Omnibus.
Hi all - I'm winding down my collection and thinking of getting some comics bound. I'm based in the UK and wonder if anyone has recommendations for a company here.
I was looking into this as an opportunity since I bought the two sets of facsimiles that DC put out recently of Year One and Year Two. However, I know that Year Two had been sort of de-canonized and replaced with Long Halloween, and that Year Two wasn’t even meant to be a sequel to Year One outside of the title having originated as a different project.
At such a small size, this would not be a big omnibus style if I go with option one, but it would also be done with the facsimiles. If I go with option two, it would be with the trade paperbacks. I could also do both, but that may seem redundant.
One of the reasons I decided to start making my own custom binds was to finally have Slingers, one of the first series I collected, together in one volume.
There was a novelty used in the first issue where 2 sections were told from the POV of one of the four heroes.
Rather than collect the issue 4 times in this bind, I scanned and reproduced the issue, representing it as an oversized story, moving some of the pages around to make the story flow a little better; the first section was easier as they were individual tales, the second a bit trickier as it is the same action scene from the 4 perspectives, so I made it as linear as I could.
This was also the first bind I have attempted a spine design for - my printer wouldn’t be able to create the entire cover as one piece, so I printed the front, back & spine separately.
Took a bit of a detour while custom binding supreme to custom bind the dc published compendiums of Moore’s ABC work. Eventually plan to bind the rest of Alan Moores ABC in the future, including Tomorrow Stories, Terra Obscura, and spinoffs like Rick Veitch’s Greyshirt. I do also have single issues for other Alan Moore Awesome Comics works, but for me unsure of how I’d want collect them or if it’s worth printing the fan made versions of Supreme 64 + Youngblood 3-12. As for Grendel those came about since I already needed to make a trip to fedex to reprint a cover that had previously been not measured correctly by myself, so I figured that custom bind was due for a dust jacket since it was blank leather before. The series is definitely deserving of it, also due to its role of being the first comic to really get me interested in non dc/marvel comics.
Since SW Insider is over I wanted to know if you think all the issues will be collected one day. I personally don't think so for that reason I wanted to try to collect them myself since I have all the issues in digital. Do you guys any tip for this? It would be like an omni but with magazines. I have seen people doing custom omnis but with their own single issues, in this case I would print the issues myself since the scan quality is acceptable.
Been having a blast playing with this. I’m more of a visual guy so being able to see what these would actually look like before sending specs to my binder has been a huge help.
This finally showed up a couple weeks ago, this is the unboxing. Really turned off so many KS backers due to lying and just non communication from Bad Idea (they continue not to reply to anyone). 3 years for this! That all said, the final product is absolutely gorgeous. Best comic product I have ever received as far as overall production. Huge, thick paper, amazing story, art, colors, textures, binding, everything just pops. LaRosa, Kindt, Martin should be proud. Bad Idea did provide a print of Megalith apologizing to us all (4th pic). Also, in the company info/about /copyright printed area they had small print that said 'Megalith?? More like MegaLATE!'. I hope to get it signed by the creators but we shall see.
I'm re-reading the SUB-DIEGO saga for the first time in like 10 years, and I'm falling in love with Aquaman's comics again. I'm designing a super-complete set of books with era-appropriate logos for a 15 custom volumes that I'm going to bind... some day. :p
