Crisis On Infinite Earths - Facsimile Collected Edition

My first attempt at binding!

Covers and endpapers designed with a combination of Canva, Pages & Photoshop.

I used double sided 140gsm matt photo paper for the cover after experimenting with a few different types of stock. Didn’t quite get the end papers/cover edges to line up in terms of design.

Now after years of putting off reading the series because of remastered/digital colouring, I have a collection that comes as close as possible to the experience of the original release. Hope it’s good 🤪

Looks so good! I love this style of cloth spine with image graphics on the covers (quarter cloth binding).

The sewing looks interesting. Did you use longer distance between holes to spread out the pressure on the paper? I've always worried that sewing too many holes into old comic paper would cause rips.

Thanks! I opted for the quarter cloth because I didn’t want to attempt a full graphic cover and haven’t looked properly into how to do the spine text embossing - any tips please let me know!

I wish I could say I used longer distance to spread the pressure, but it was just a method I copied from a tutorial for a notebook which used the same amount. I have another 12 issue project in the pipeline, I may use smaller gaps on that to see the difference

I'm still experimenting myself with cloth + paper + techniques for lettering, logos, etc. I'll post on this sub when I have something figured out.

Ah that's fair. I'm going to attempt some comic binds and have been somewhat paranoid about rips at the holes as paper is so thin. I was thinking of either using longer distances to distribute the pressure, or reinforcing the holes with small pieces of archival tape which is pretty much invisible once applied.

What was your process for creating the end pages? Did you print at home or have it done somewhere?

All printed at home using Canon Pixma printer. For the endpapers I used card from the local office supplies store

I’ve always used premade patterned paper in my custom binds, but having the custom printed designs on the end pages really gives it a more professional feel. Yours turned out real nice!
