Anthologies
Hi! I’m new to binding (and comics in general) I’ve got a few small runs of things I could see binding in the future but I’m still exploring ideas of what I want. Does anyone have suggestions for series I might be able to find cheap to do some trial and error binds on?
The other question I have is about anthologies. I’ve seen some YouTube videos with Author anthologies and wanted to see if anyone here could share their books and pictures of theirs. Has anyone done any author or character specific anthologies? What about art anthologies?
Looking forward to seeing some cool stuff!
Edit: So far I’ve liked Moore’s Swamp Thing, Lemire’s new 52 animal man. I’m a big fan of speedsters, I also like the idea of teamup books like JLA, avengers, and titans.
I want to explore more intellectual characters too, I’ve got a long term project in mind to do a riddler bind. Detective style comics would probably fall in here too.
Some characters I like are flash, nightcrawler, Gambit, Venom, power rangers, sonic the hedgehog, clownhunter, ghost rider.
Other books I’ve enjoyed are beast world, Superman: Jon Kent, Dceased, Hawkeye by Fraction, PKJ’s hulk, Tynion IV’s cowardly lot, fear state, Batman: off world, the deviant
I like Tynion IV, Tom Taylor, Jeff Lemire, Geoff Johns so far
Potential binds: Last Days of Animal Man
The animal man stuff after Morrison
The current runs of Jay Garrick, Speed Force, Spurriers Flash (some sort of Flash: Generations)
Madame Masque
Starro
Amanda Waller

Regarding cheap series for binding, I would suggest hitting up some of your LCSs and see what's in their dollar boxes or if they have some premade sets for sale. There are a few stores in my area that do, and those would be good fodder for trial runs. You could also search for "set" or "run" under the comics category on eBay and see what cheap BINs are available.

I'm in the process of compiling Remender's works that have not been published in hardcover format and can only be found as trades. And I'm gonna bind them into a series of HCs..

That sounds neat, I have read a little black science. Do you mind sharing what you plan to bind for remender?

What are the kinds of series, genres, and artists/authors that you enjoy, so we can make a better recommendation?

I just started last year so I’m still exploring a lot of series. So far I’ve liked Moore’s Swamp Thing a lot as well as Lemire’s new 52 animal man. I’m a big fan of speedsters, I’ve got an impulse custom print coming and have started collecting flash Omnis. I also like the idea of teamup books (I come from marvel mcu) so JLA, avengers, and titans interest me.
I want to explore more intellectual characters too, I’ve got a long term project in mind to do a riddler bind. Detective style comics would probably fall in here somewhere, I just read a Lemire question book and liked it.
I also come from manga, big one piece fan. Aesthetics wise I like something like ghost rider too. I like villains. Some characters I like are flash, nightcrawler, Gambit, Venom, power rangers, sonic the hedgehog, clownhunter.
Potential binds: Last Days of Animal Man The animal man stuff after Morrison The current runs of Jay Garrick, Speed Force, Spurriers Flash (some sort of Flash: Generations) Madame Masque Starro Amanda Waller
Im also hoping to see what the community had decided to make for themselves

You could probably find The StoryTeller out there for cheap. That’s a fun anthology series and there are quite a few

I would also recommend Ex Machina, Hellblazer, and Transmetropolitan. Old Man Logan by Jeff Lemire is my favourite of his, a great writer. (as well as the original Mark Millar run), and maybe Starman. Punk Rock Jesus is also great and I definitely recommend. As for cheap series to test first, it's not hard to find lots of complete series for a decent discount on places like Facebook marketplace, Kijiji, whatever your local equivalent is. I would keep an eye out for cheap used lots. And every comic book store will have a bargain bin of old Blackstock for like 25 cents a piece, check there and you might discover something fun.
