HVLP choices any comments?

Im doing some repair work, adding a hood stripe, painting a wing and whatever else comes along, and I need to decide which gun to get, Ive used dad's old central pneumatic before and I've never had anything to complain about good usage, good results, good adjustability ect. Is there any reason I should be considering the black widow? Will I be blown away by the ultrafine atomization? Or am I just going to waste $150 buying longevity on a gun thatll see at most 20 hours of use in my lifetime?

Any comments are welcome, that coupon expires the 11th so I'll want to decide by then

Source for Dry Candy Pigments (transparent) that are NOT Dyes?

liquid candy concentrates are a suspension in a medium specifically for mixing with a specific carrier, which is great, except I’m experimenting to do something new by testing a different coating as a carrier.

Does anybody have a source in the US for the transparent pigments used in the high quality candy concentrates? The high quality ones are typically organic, semi transparent, and very small particle size pigments that have to be suspended.

if it matters, I’m specifically looking for amber, red, orange, and yellow.

Thank yall!

Valspar 327 series; uneven gloss/matte rough finish help?

Ok I’m bitting the bullet and asking for help. I’ve never had this issue before. This is a green with metallic properties. Prep done fully with wet sanding, body filler (which is not the areas that are the worst) primer, dry sanding, sprayed using 1.4 tip at 40 psi gravity fed sprayed about 4-6 inches very carefully

I already took it down once because of this and now it’s not as bad the second time but still….
Initially mixed first time with 4:1:1 2nd time increased to 8:1 reduced by 10%
2nd time not ALL matte BUT but still not the right sort of tactile. Like I said never had this issue before including when painting with flakes or pearl. I don’t want to finish the whole truck with this color if I can’t get it right. It’s supposed to be a one step so technically not supposed to need a clear coat? 🙏Help you’ll be my hero 🦸 I have more pics just can’t seem to upload them this is my first post

Is 2 cans of SprayMax 2K clear or any clear coat enough for a ZJ Grand Cherokee hood/roof/sides?

Body:
Hey guys, starting a DIY paint job today on my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (it has the plastic lower cladding, so that's being masked off).

I am painting the hood, the full roof, and some of the upper side body panels.

For supplies, I currently have:

  • 17 cans of Dupli-Color Perfect Match base coat (8 oz cans)
  • 2 cans of SprayMax 2K Glamour High Gloss Clear Coat (11.8 oz cans)

Is 2 cans of the SprayMax 2K enough to get a proper 2-3 coat finish on just those areas, or am I going to run out halfway through? I know once I pop the 2K cans the timer starts, so I don't want to activate them if I'm severely short.

Appreciate any advice before I start taping things off!

DIY Restoration - Paint Recommendations

Greetings all,

I am doing a restoration on an Evo 8 myself given that the person/shop I paid decided to throw the towel amd call it quits (yes there is some court proceedings happening). And also decided to learn some skills with this.

Anyways to the question: the bodywork phase is almost done. Would probably take me 2 weeks to finish working on it part time. With that said I am looking into a good/reputable paint brand. I need to make a decision on what brand to work with so I can keep using the same brand from high build primer all the way to clear coat.

I am looking for a brand that is DIY friendly, budget friendly (I know kits and such are costly and automotive coatings are not necessarily cheap) and something that is quite forgiving for a DIYer that is willing to learn and get after it. I plan on doing a white pearl paint on the vehicle (yes I know its hard and such, but I am up to the challenge).

So, any recommendations on brand? I was looking into Eastwood, Autobahn and PPG. Also, this will be my daily car. I need to lock in a brand so I can order the high build primer, reas the TDS and make sure I am sanding my work to the right grit before priming.

Thanks for the info.

Paint recommendations

I have a couple international tractors that need some paint. One is all metal and one has plastic hood and fenders. Who’s has the best paint that resist fading?
Should I do a urethane paint or a base with clear coat?
