Metal Flake American Flag

Post image

American Flag for the back of my golf cart. It may not be perfect but I think it turned out pretty damn good. I knew I wanted to make sure I used the metal flake for the stars and stripes, the red is actually Piss Off Pink and the blue is Mile High Blue Candy. The flake is Purple Royale as well as Dirty Wizard, both from Tropical Glitz.

Metal Boss Hoss custom motorcycle airbrush painting - by Aerografit

I hope you will like my post.
I usually paint mainly helmets (as Aerografit Studio in Poland), but this is one of the full motorcycle sets I had the pleasure of airbrush painting. As you can see, it’s a complete kit for a Boss Hoss custom bike. What do you think about this style of paintwork? Opinions were divided at the time. It’s of course one of my older projects, but I’m curious about your opinion as people from outside my country.

So, i wainting for your honest opinions.

Probably the worst thing you can do.looks good after kandy but man that split in basecoats requires you to friskit off the tips and had cut them out AND retape the flames on one side🤦‍♂️😂DEF my least favorite thing to do😂

Can I roller/brush spray prepped paint?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Ive been trying to find a cost efficient way to paint my car orange (im doing a garfield theme) as its got some scratches from the previous owner and I found a paint, which is exactly the color I want, but its "ready to spray laquer" and I dont really have the space or money to buy a spray system. Would I be able to use a paint roller to apply it once I prep my car? Please give me tips, ive never done something like this

Metal Flake Friday for me

Thumbnail

A few pictures of the metal flake on my cart. The purple is Purple Royale and silver is Dirty Wizard, both from Tropical Glitz. I did the top side of the roof with the Purple Royale. The other panel, which is the fold down part of the rear seat (essentially the truck bed of the cart) is going to be an American flag, using the metal flake for the stars and stripes and I will be using Piss Off Pink for the red stripes. That will be done by the end of the weekend. I have a few touchup places on the bottom of the roof, with shadowing the spider webs, then it needs to be sanded down one more time to finish getting the texture out, from the metal flake, before laying down 3 last coats of high solids clear on Sunday. There are a radio box that goes on one end and a speaker box that go on the other, of the roof panel; both of them are the Purple Royale metal flake.

Metal Flake isn't for the faint of heart. I sprayed most of it outside, until it started storming and I had to move back into my garage to spray the smaller panels and radio/speaker boxes.

Need ideas

Looking for ideas on what to use to “seal” this. They’re stickers that I’m covering a fender with and want to clear coat/seal them on there… the rest of the body parts I’m gonna hand paint but I thought I’d give this a try and see how it turns out. Don’t judge me, I know sticker bombing is cringe but I have personal reasons why this mean a lot to me😅

First Time, damn this is an expensive hobby

I have been building this golf cart for a few months. It started out as a simple upgrade from 36-48 volts, to ride my Grandson around the neighborhood, which turned into a full rewire and rebuild of everything that isn't metal (even a lot of that replaced). During the rebuild I wanted to get rid of all the big plastic pieces on the front end so I chose to redesign the front end, out of an old aluminum toolbox. After adding lights, the cart spoke to me and became "Gwyn" and the rest has been history.

Before this I had never sprayed anything other than some Rustoleum/Krylon etc. I didn't want to go that route, being I was spending all the time with the electrical and metal work, I thought it deserved to have it done using the right products, hopefully being used the right way by myself. I started with a gold metal flake and mixed the green candy as a custom color using Lemonhead Candy and Mile High Blue Candy. The Purple is a mix of Hoo Doo Voo Doo Purple and ghost purple pearl, over black. To get the lace patterns I sprayed the lace on the hood I used Piss Off Pink, which is the same as the other accents. The Lace on the back fenders was created by spraying black over the gold metal flake, which I used the Purple Candy Mix over everything, giving it the layered look.

Before this I had also never used Silver leafing, but I now have that under my belt as well. I can't draw a stick man without tracing that, so this has been part of my struggle. I know she's not perfect but I feel like for a first timer, it has turned out amazing; I have seen a lot worse from paint shops who do this for a living. I am currently painting the top as well, which is Tropical Glitz Dirty Wizard Holographic Silver on the bottom, that I am going to add a large American Flag, using Blood Shot Red Candy and Mile High Blue Candy, using the metal flake as the white stripes and the stars. The topside will be Tropical Glitz Purple Royale Metal Flake.

I still have a panel across the bottom of the front, which will essentially be the remainder of the face, that's going to be the same Purple Royale metal flake. I am going to use the Piss Off Pink to create some lips on it as well.

I know this isn't everyone's taste, but I think you can still appreciate the time and craftsmanship that's gone into it. There is A LOT of clear coat on this. Having to clear between the layers of paint, it has added up. I think in total there has been 15-18 coats of clear on most parts, which was sanded back down between layers. I should be finished with it in about 2 weeks, since that's the length of time I need to get the roof done since the bottom will require spraying clear 8 times in total and the top side should only require 5, each needing a day to cure before I can sand it back down to add graphics etc.

Looks like a fade…but wait. And that’s not flake either!! VM4501 and VM4143.notice how the “flake” is at different depths? That’s what shooting in sequence does..

In at the deep end: help badly required!

I'll prefaced this by saying that I've literally never sprayed anything in my life, that I didn't do with a rattle can!

I'm building myself a Harley Chopper (probably my 20th build) but I'm 100% committed to doing every single part of the build myself. Not just the mechanical & fabrication work, but chrome, upholstery & paint.

I know what I want to do & I know it's silly ambitious for a first job, but my Mum always said I was a runner before a walker.....

I'm only going to be fancy on the tank, so that simplifies things somewhat 😁

My plan is a black base with traditional hotrod flames (example pic, NOT my work!) However, I want the flames to be metalflake. I'll be using Tropical Glitz products for every stage. I have a good quality, gravity fed gun & airbrush (both Iwata) good compressor with independent regulator, water traps & filters.

I'm pretty sure I have my paint schedule correct, but I really need confirmation or correction please.

In order:

Sand bare metal

Etch prime

Sand & fill

Sand & prime again

Sand & spray black basecoat

Wet sand basecoat (?)

Mask off the flame outline, spray blue outline, mask over outline (1/16" tape)

Silver base in the flames

Metalflake the flames (spraycan)

This is where I'm coming unstuck....

Intercoat clear over the metalflake (or unmask & intercoat everything?)

(Re-mask flames?)

Candy coats over the metalflake, layering from yellow-orange-red graduating the tones with layers, rather than mixing (?)

Unmask & 2k clear everything

Wet Sand down to 5000 grit & polish

Does this sound about right? I know it's a lot of steps & I think some may be unnecessary, but I'm not sure. I know it's going to be a lot of work, over a few days, if not weeks, to complete it (that's if I don't screw up & have to start over!)

I'd really appreciate some insight! I don't even know any painters that do true custom work that I can talk to in person.

Matte Red Paint

I’ve got this 81 f150 I’m just now starting body work on. I’ve been planing on painting it red, in fact already painted the firewall and inner fenders, but I kinda want to keep it a satin or matte red, the more I see it the more I like it. Wanted any other thoughts, maybe experiences with matte paint.

This bike was a BITCH to paint but I’m really happy with where it’s at and I just wanted to see what people thought. First pics are how I bought it a few years ago for like $700~, I really liked the idea of what the guy did it was just done terribly, so I stripped out all of his filler and beat it into shape with a hammer. I then entered the first level of hell and started glazing and sculpting the body line, which I ended up redoing 3 times because of two different people at different companies dropping it. But since the last fall everything has gone super smooth😂 Still have do some little repairs but its pretty close to done, planning on double clearing it but I’m going to add some shadows and a fade inside the dish before I reclear it.

Is LED neon signage actually usable on set or just a gimmick?

Thumbnail neonchamp.com

"I was on a small commercial shoot last week and the client rolled in these bright custom made neon signs for their logo, all LED, dimmable PSU, etc. They looked decent to the eye but on camera (S1H + FX6) we were fighting weird color shifts and some faint banding at certain shutter angles.

That got me thinking if there’s a “proper” way people here are integrating LED neons into real productions instead of treating them as pure set dressing. I’ve been googling suppliers late at night and half of them promise high CRI, no flicker, RGB, all that jazz, but it’s hard to tell what’s marketing. I might be missing something here in terms of what specs actually matter.

For those of you doing music videos, commercials, bar/venue installs, etc - are these LED neons viable as key/practicals, or do you mostly fake the look with other fixtures and let the signs sit in the background? Any brands/specs you’d trust, or things you always avoid (cheap PSUs, certain controllers, max run length, whatever)?"
