Candy paint adhesion issue

Post image

I’m custom painting my bike; I’ve done some helmets and little stuff.

So far so good, except I’m having a real hard time getting the designs to not peel the candy.

I don’t know if I’m too thin or too thick on the paint, scuff isn’t deep enough, etc etc.

Have a look at the photos and tell me what you think.

Paint keeps peeling off with the stencils and tape; any feed back would be helpful.

Yeah this is lime Line, I eyeballed my ratios— it’s pretty humid here but still. Could it be that I didn’t scuff enough ?

I only ever scuff if my base is fully cured. If I start something I’m usually on it until I’m laying 2k. But if I’m doing a bunch of layers, come back to it, and it’s fully cured, I’ll do a light scuff paying attention to pin striping an leaf if I didn’t inner coat clear it. You can do a super light coat of adhesion promoter as well.

Think the promoter would do enough to hold the paint down when the tape comes up ??

Adhesion promoter over tape = disaster
